Baseball drops game one to Kansas, 7-6

LAWRENCE, Kan. – St. Thomas baseball traveled to Kansas for its first ever series against the Jayhawks. In a close matchup, St. Thomas (11-9 overall, 5-1 Summit) fell to Kansas (19-6 overall, 3-3 Big 12) at Hoglund Ballpark.

St. Thomas was the first on the board in game one against the Jayhawks. Max Moris tallied an RBI double, sending home Ben Vujovich for the first run of the game. Moris then scored the game's second run, putting the Tommies in the lead midway through the third. However, Kansas quickly responded, evening the score at 2-2 through three frames.

The Tommies added two runs in the fourth, regaining the advantage. Kansas once again responded, taking its first lead of the game in the fifth inning, 6-4.

Vujovich posted his second home run of the season in the top of the seventh, bringing the Tommies back within two runs.

After tallying a run in the eighth, the Tommies went into the ninth down by one run. Unable to complete the comeback, St. Thomas fell to Kansas 7-6 in game one of the series.

Tanner Recchio, Vujovich and Moris posted multi-hit games against the Jayhawks, as Moris tallied two RBI.

The St. Thomas pitching staff combined for four strikeouts on Tuesday evening.
