CHICAGO, Ill. – St. Thomas Softball (3-1 overall) crushed both of their opponents on day two of the DePaul Dome Tournament, defeating Green Bay 10-0 and DePaul 9-3 at The Dome in Chicagoland.
Game One Recap
From the words "play ball", the Tommies were the better team against the Green Bay Phoenix. Avery Wukawitz worked a great at-bat that resulted in the first home run of the season on a rocket to right center field. Cassidy Carby walked and was pushed to second on Kaitlyn Raymond's single down the left field line. The Tommies' starting pitcher, Ella Cook, flew out to right field, but advanced both runners. Laken Lienhard followed it up with a single to center field that scored one. Abbi Stierlen notched an RBI on a SAC FLY and Ruby Moore brought home Lienhard to cap off the Toms' four-run first inning.
Cook allowed one hit in the bottom of the first and struck out two Green Bay batters. She completed the game with just two hits allowed and seven strikeouts.
St. Thomas doubled its lead in the second inning with RBI hits from Cook, Lienhard, and Weingart. The Tommies added five hits in the frame and finished the game with 13. Cook worked a 1-2-3 second.
Morgan Klein stole home after Ruby Moore broke for second with runners on the corners in the third. Moore bought time for Klein and then beat the rundown to steal second on top of the run. Raymond singled to left field to score Moore and put the Toms on top, 10-0.
The Phoenix got their second hit with two outs in the fourth but did not score.
Marleigh Louvar added a pinch-hit double in her first at-bat of the season but was stranded at the conclusion of the top of the fifth.
