Softball falls to UTSA and Incarnate Word on a dreary afternoon
SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – St. Thomas Softball (5-7 overall) could not overcome their opponents or the poor weather conditions on Saturday at the Roadrunner classic falling to UTSA (9-3) at Roadrunner Stadium, 3-2 and to Incarnate Word (7-5) at H-E-B Field, 10-2 in six innings.
Game One Recap
Ella Cook pitched tremendously once again with six+ innings of no earned-run ball. The UTSA Roadrunners scored one run in the first on a throwing error and then scored on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh after an error prolonged that inning. Cook went 6.2 innings with five hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts. She avoided barrels nearly the entire game.
On the offensive end, Ella Cook's fourth inning solo home run was the Toms' first hit of the game. Kameron Monson followed Cook up with a solo homer in the top of the fifth.
The Tommies left runners on base in the third, fifth, and sixth for a total of five. Their top of the order struggled going 0-10 with one strike out and three runners left on.
Cook was the only Tommie with multiple hits and Ruby Moore was the only other to get one base multiple times with a single and a walk. Both teams recorded five hits, the Toms walked three times, and the Roadrunners walked twice.
Game Two Recap
The Cardinals jumped on the board early after holding the Toms off the scoreboard in the first. They scored three runs on three hits, all singles, and one error. None of the runs were earned against Christina Crawford.
Kyllie Weingart's fourth inning two-run home run was the lone bright spot offensively for St. Thomas. It was the first of her career and scored Anna Caruso from second after she came in to pinch run for Kameron Monson.
Incarnate Word added five runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth. Crawford pitched into that five-run fifth but was relieved before recording an out in the frame. She ended her day with 4.0+ innings, five runs (two earned), eight hits, two walks, and one strikeout. She was replaced by Keira Murphy who went 1.2 innings with five runs (four earned) on five hits, five walks, and two wild pitches.
The hosting Cards walked it off in the sixth inning via the eight-run rule.
Kameron Monson was 2-2 with a double and a walk. Ella Cook reached safely twice with a pair of walks. Marleigh Louvar recorded her second hit of the season late in the game while pinch hitting.
