Tommie Softball looks to keep rolling down in Texas

Tommies compete in five games at the Bobcat Tournament against four new opponents

ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of St. Thomas Softball (4-1) looks to continue its best start in program history with five games in three days down in San Marcos, Texas at the Bobcat Tournament hosted by Texas State. The Tommies play Texas State, New Mexico, Stephen F. Austin, and Fordham this weekend.
 
The Toms won four of their first five games and outscored their opponents by 18 runs last weekend at the DePaul Dome Tournament. They had six hitters record an OPS of 1.000 or higher and were led by Kaitlyn Raymond who slashed .632/.650/.789 with 12 hits (one double and one triple), five RBI, 15 total bases, six runs scored, and one walk. Ella Cook led the way for the pitching staff with a 0.90 ERA in 10 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts and a .286 batting average against. 
 
Bobcat Tournament
The Tommies head down to the Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos for the Bobcat Tournament hosted by Texas State. This is the Toms' first time competing at the Bobcat Tournament and their first time playing any of their four opponents. 
 
The schedule has St. Thomas playing Texas State and New Mexico at 4:45 and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14th, followed by games with Stephen F. Austin and New Mexico at 12:15 and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, and then with a 10:00 a.m. contest against Fordham on Sunday.

St. Thomas at Texas State – 4:45 PM – Friday

  • This is the first game all-time between Texas State and St. Thomas. The Tommies are 0-1 all-time against the Sun Belt Conference. 
  • Texas State (2-2) split their opening weekend tournament with wins against San Diego and Lipscomb and losses against Arkansas and Bradley. The Bobcat's leading hitter this season is #15 Karmyn Bass with a slash line of .500/.538/.700, five hits, one triple, two RBI, two walks, and a run scored. Their leader in the circle is #22 Madison Azua with a 1.50 ERA in 14 innings pitched including 12 strikeouts, one walk, and a .163 batting average against. 
St. Thomas vs. New Mexico – 7:00 PM – Friday

  • This is the first game all-time between New Mexico and St. Thomas. The Tommies are 0-2 all-time against the Mountain West Conference. 
  • The Lobos (3-3-1) played into extra innings during each of their last two games with a 6-4 loss against Houston in 10 frames and a 2-2 tie with St. John's in eight. #10 Allie Williams has led the way through seven games with a .458/.500/.542 slash line and 11 hits, two doubles, five RBI, and two walks. They have three pitchers with 10+ innings pitched but #23 McKenna Guest leads the way with a 1.47 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 10 strikeouts and seven walks in three starts. 
St. Thomas vs. Stephen F. Austin – 12:15 PM – Saturday

  • This is the first game all-time between Stephen F. Austin and St. Thomas. The Tommies are 2-7 against the Southland Conference.
  • Stephen F. Austin (2-3) won their last game against Sam Houston, 1-0. They fell 3-5 to the South Dakota Coyotes last weekend in Commerce, Texas at the East Texas A&M Leadoff. #1 Kaylee Paul leads the way offensively with a .600/.625/.600 slash line and nine hits, four RBI, nine total bases, one walk, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. #11 Alexis Telford has a 0.51 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched with a 1.39 WHIP, 13 strikeouts, and two walks in two starts. 
St. Thomas vs. New Mexico – 7:00 PM – Saturday St. Thomas vs. Fordham – 10:00 AM – Sunday

  • This is the first game all-time between Fordham and St. Thomas. The Tommies are 0-4 against the Atlantic 10 Conference. 
  • Fordham (1-4) defeated Charleston, 5-2, for its only win to open the season last weekend. The Rams lost a pair of 2-1 games to the North Dakota State Bison in that season-opening tournament. #2 Mallory McClellan led the way offensively last weekend with a .400/.400/.600 slash line in 15 at-bats with six hits, one double, one triple, three RBI, nine total bases, and two runs scored. #16 Holly Beeman pitched to a 2.00 ERA in 14 innings with a 1.00 WHIP, nine strikeouts, and zero walks in two starts.
