Women’s Hockey welcomes Bemidji State to St. Paul

The Tommies host the Beavers in WCHA series from Feb. 14-15

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Hockey team is back at home for a series against Bemidji State. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 3:00 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.

Last Weekend Recap
St. Thomas women's hockey traveled to Columbus for a series against #2 Ohio State. In game one, the Tommies fell 5-4 in overtime. On Saturday, the Buckeyes defeated St. Thomas by a score of 5-1.  
 
Head Coach Bethany Brausen
The University of St. Thomas Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Phil Esten announced Bethany Brausen as the next head coach of the Tommie women's hockey program.
 
Brausen brings a wealth of experience to the head coaching roll, serving as St. Thomas top assistant, active head coach and interim head coach since joining the program in 2021.
 
As the interim head coach in 2024-25, Brausen led the Tommies to their first sweep of a top-5 opponent, upending the #4 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.
 
Scouting the Beavers
The Bemidji State Beavers (5-25-1, 3-21-0 WCHA) are coming off two losses against #6 UMD. Bemidji State fell 2-0 in game one, followed by a 6-0 defeat in game two at the Sanford Center.
 
Morgan Smith leads the Beaver offense with 16 points (8G, 8A) in 31 games played this season. The freshman has tallied six power play goals, which ranks third in the WCHA.
 
History Against Bemidji State
  • The Tommies hold a 5-8-1 record against Bemidji State, including a 4-2 record at home.
  • St. Thomas earned its first DI victory on Oct. 2, 2021 against the Beavers.
  • Last time out, the Bemidji State earned the weekend sweep, defeating St. Thomas in both games at the Sanford Center.

WCHA Pre-Season Poll
Tommie Women's Hockey was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team WCHA preseason poll, voted on by league head coaches.

Last season's national runner-up Wisconsin was selected among league head coaches to win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's 2024-25 regular season title. The top four teams in the poll qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year.
