The reigning Summit League regular season champs start their season February 6

ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas Softball had won 22 conference championships during its time at the Division III level. It took the Tommies just four seasons at the Division I level to conquer the Summit League for the first time after a 33-17 overall mark and 14-4 conference record in 2025. They now enter the 2026 season with new pressure and an impressive 2026 schedule.

To sum up the Tommies' 2026 schedule, the Purple play 48 games, 18 Summit League games, 10 games at South Field, 25 games on the road, and 13 on neutral fields. The Toms will go to battle with one SEC team, one Big 12 team, three Big 10 teams, and five NCAA tournament teams. Their regular season starts on February 6 and spans 86 days until May 3. Summit League play begins on March 20 and the Toms' home opener is March 27.

The UTEP Invitational kicks off the 2026 campaign. It will be the Toms' first trip to UTEP where they will play Utah Valley and New Mexico State each twice with one game against the Miners. All three are novel opponents for the Purple and Gray.

They return to the Mardi Gras Mambo the following weekend after a year away from the February tournament. Five quality opponents are lined up from February 13-15: Sam Houston, Nicholls, Louisiana Tech, Southeastern Louisiana, and Northwestern State. Sam Houston was on the schedule last season, but the two sides did not meet due to weather. St. Thomas' record against the other four schools is a combined 2-8.

Next on the docket is the East Texas A&M Invitational where the Toms will matchup with Southern, North Texas, SIUE, and East Texas A&M from Feb. 20-22. The Purple have never played three of their four scheduled foes and are 1-0 with an 11-3 win in 2024 against the SIUE Cougars.

Two tournament teams and Kent State come next at the Crimson Classic from February 27 thru March 1. The Toms battle the Golden Flashes twice and the Alabama Crimson Tide twice sandwiched around a game against South Florida. The Toms are 0-2 against the Tide and 1-0 against the Bulls.

The Boise State Invitational is the final early season weekend tournament of the season. Cal Baptist, Portland State, Boise State and NCAA tournament team, Weber State represent the opposition. The Toms are 0-2 against Boise State and have not played a game against the other three.

Drake (Mar. 11), Iowa State (Mar. 17), Iowa (Mar. 24), Wisconsin (Apr. 15), and Green Bay (Apr. 20) are the remaining road non-conference opponents. The Tommies will host crosstown rival, Minnesota for the first time at South Field on April 1.

Kansas City is the first team on the conference schedule with games played on March 20, 21st, and 22nd at Urban Youth Academy in Missouri. St. Thomas' home opener is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27 against South Dakota with games to follow on Saturday and Sunday.

The Tommies go back on the road from April 2-4 for a series with North Dakota State before welcoming in the other half of the 2025 regular season co-championship title with three home games against the Omaha Mavericks on April 10-12.

Regular season action wraps with series against South Dakota State on the road April 24-26 and North Dakota at home May 1-3.
