Softball takes longest game of DI era 2-1 in 14 innings

Wukawitz walked it off with an RBI double
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas softball (34-16, 12-4 Summit League) outlasted North Dakota (27-24, 4-12) in a marathon battle Friday afternoon at South Field, earning a 2-1 victory in 14 innings in Summit League play.
The Tommies secured their second straight win over the Fighting Hawks in a lengthy pitchers' duel. North Dakota struck first with a run in the top of the third, Ava Kleinfeldt kept the visiting offense there the rest of the way. She went 11.1 innings and allowed the one earned run on six hits, three walks, with seven strikeouts and 19 groundouts. Ella Cook came in to relieve Kleinfeldt in the 12th and got the win on 2.2 innings; she allowed only a walk and struck out two.
Laken Lienhard tied the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single to score Zoe Trotter from second with two outs. Despite earning 12 hits in total and four walks off UND starter, Tegan Livesay, the Purple were held to just the two tallies.
They had opportunities to end the game with runners on in the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th but took until the 14th to produce the game-winning run. Lienhard doubled to right center field with one out in the final inning and Avery Wukawitz drove a one-strike pitch to center field for a walk-off double.
St. Thomas' win was its 34th of the season, a new program record. The Purple finish out their 2026 regular season tomorrow at noon on South Field.
