Tommies set records in Wednesday win over Crown

ST. PAUL, MINN. – It was a record breaking evening for the University of St. Thomas women's basketball team. The Tommies beat a slew of DI era and program records in their 112-23 win over Crown College at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena Wednesday night. It was St. Thomas' first 100 point performance since the 2015-16 season, helping the team improve to 5-6 overall.
QUICK HITS:
- The Tommies set the DI era record for steals in a quarter (14) and points in a quarter (37) Wednesday evening in addition to setting the DI era record for points in a game (112)
- As a team, St. Thomas closed the game with 30 total steals, with Autumn McCall (Blaine, Minn. / Centennial) and Lydia Aalsma (Waupun, Wis. / Waupun) each tallying six.
- Eight St. Thomas student-athletes scored in double-digits Wednesday evening, led by Mikayla Werner's (Hortonville, Wis. / Hortonville) near perfect game. The sophomore scored 14 points while shooting 7-7 from the floor.
- McCall also scored 14 points on the night, while Abbey Vallance (Sydney, Australia / Tara Anglican School) tallied a career-high and team leading seven rebounds.
SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: St. Thomas exploded out of the gate, building a 12-1 lead in and forcing eight Crown turnovers in the opening quarter. The Tommies converted those miscues into 22 first quarter points. Big early contributions came from Alyssa Sand (Albany, Minn. / Albany), Savannah McGowan (Plymouth, Minn. / Armstrong), and Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore, Ill. / Sycamore), while Jada Hood (St. Paul, Minn. / Roseville Area) knocked down two early threes to set the tone offensively. St. Thomas' pressure defense limited the Polars to just 3-7 shooting and no three-point makes.
Second Quarter: The Tommie defense turned suffocating, holding Crown to four points on 2-11 shooting while forcing an additional nine turnovers. St. Thomas' offense continued clicking, shooting .652 from the field .625 from deep. Feuerbach hit back-to-back threes in transition, and Werner and McCall repeatedly converted at the rim. The Tommies closed the half on a 19–0 run, taking a commanding 69-11 lead into the locker room
Third Quarter: Crown opened the second half with a quick basket, but St. Thomas answered with continued balanced scoring. Sand drained two more threes, Hood attacked downhill for a layup, and Werner added multiple transition finishes. Defensively, the Tommies forced nine more turnovers in the period and held the Polars scoreless for long stretches.
Fourth Quarter: St. Thomas closed out the game with another dominant defensive quarter. The Tommies also extended their lead to its largest margin of the night, and season, at 89 points, cementing the 112-23 victory.

- Alyssa Sand (Albany, Minn. / Albany) scored 13 points thanks to 5-7 shooting from the floor.
- Mikayla Werner's (Hortonville, Wis. / Hortonville) was perfect Wednesday evening, scoring 14 points on 7-7 shooting. Her lone shot missed came from the charity stripe.
