Sophomore continued 20-point scoring streak including buzzer-beating, game-winner
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – In as many weeks, sophomore guard Nolan Minessale was named the Summit League Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Tuesday. Minessale led the Tommies to the Portland Invitational title as he extended his season-opening 20-point streak, including a buzzer-beating, game-winning half-court shot over previously undefeated Northern Colorado.
Minessale averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game and shot 43.4 percent from the field. He added six steals and three blocks on the weekend as St. Thomas defeated Northern Colorado 73-72, fell to Cal State Fullerton 88-80 and beat Portland 76-66.
Minessale began the weekend with 20 points on 57.1 percent shooting against Northern Colorado, reaching the 20-point mark on a half-court shot at the buzzer to lift the team to a win. He followed with 26 points, one shy of a career high, and his second straight game with five rebounds and five assists during a loss to Cal State Fullerton. Minessale went 10-of-10 from the free throw line against the Titans before ending the tournament with 24 points on 41.2 percent shooting along with a career-high five steals, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks during the win over Portland.
Minessale is the first Tommie to earn multiple Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honors and in back-to-back weeks. His eight straight 20-point games are the most in NCAA Division I this season and the first such instance among all DI programs to start a season since 2021-22, according to available records.
St. Thomas returns to action at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29 against Lawrence University.
