ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team battled throughout a defensive slugfest Friday night at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. The Tommies hosted Eastern Michigan University Friday evening and, despite holding the Eagles to 33% shooting, fell 52-41. With the loss, St. Thomas is now 0-3 overall.
QUICK HITS:
- Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore, Ill. / Sycamore) led the Tommies in scoring for the first time this season. Fueled by a late scoring burst, Feuerbach scored a career-high 13 points with three rebounds and shot 7-10 from the free throw line.
- Alyssa Sand (Albany, Minn. / Albany) scored 10+ points for the third straight game, closing Friday's contest with 12. She led the team and tied her career-high with nine rebounds and two steals.
SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: The Tommies opened strong, using early buckets from Sand and Feuerbach to build a 6-2 lead. St. Thomas controlled the tempo defensively, forcing eight Eastern Michigan turnovers in the first frame and did not allow a single made three in the opening 10 minutes of play.
Second Quarter: The Tommies stretched its lead to seven following baskets from Savannah McGowan (Plymouth, Minn. / Armstrong) and Savannah Gage (Ankeny, Iowa / Ankeny), but Eastern Michigan responded with a 12–2 run to close the half. A late layup with two seconds remaining put the Eagles ahead 20–19 at the break.
Third Quarter: The teams traded baskets throughout the third, with St. Thomas briefly reclaiming the lead on a layup by Sand. However, Eastern Michigan capitalized on Tommie miscues, converting turnovers into points and carrying a 34–31 advantage into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter: The Eagles pulled away with a decisive run early in the period, hitting back-to-back threes and forcing multiple St. Thomas turnovers to build a double-digit lead. Feuerbach sparked a late push with six straight points in the final two minutes, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
TOMMIE TIDBITS:
- St. Thomas won the battle in the paint 26–22 and held Eastern Michigan to .238 shooting from beyond the arc.
- Feuerbach became the third Tommie to set a career-high in points to open the 2025-26 season. The senior scored a career best 13 in the loss to the Eagles.
