ST. PAUL, MINN. – The 2025-26 season is officially underway for the University of St. Thomas women's basketball team. As the Tommies begin their fifth season of Division I play, they also look to the future, as head coach Ruth Sinn announced the 2026 recruiting class Wednesday afternoon.
St. Thomas will welcome five new faces to campus next season, as four players signed their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. Maya Kovacic, Jayci Rath, Morgan Staloch, and Samantha Voll all announced their commitments to join the Tommies on National Signing Day. Tessa Driscoll will also join St. Thomas as a walk on in 2026-27.
We are excited to welcome to our St. Thomas women's basketball community this group of young ladies," said head coach Ruth Sinn. "They epitomize our St. Thomas values and standards. They are great leaders in their communities and wonderful role models. On the basketball floor they have excelled at a high level on both ends of the floor. They are 2000-point scorers, 1000-point scorers, 1000 rebounders, they have led their respective teams to the state tournament, all the while their focus remains constant in the investment on improvement, growth and the journey they are experiencing. It is with great pride and pleasure I present to you our 2026 signees."
Meet the incoming class of 2026:
Tessa Driscoll (Iowa City, Iowa / Iowa City)
Driscoll will join the Tommies as a walk on after a stellar prep career with both Iowa City High School and All Iowa Attack. A shooting guard, Driscoll led All Iowa Attack to a national championship at Nike Nationals in July 2025 and committed to St. Thomas because of the people and campus environment.
Sinn's Comments: Tessa Driscoll is exactly the type of person and player we want here at St. Thomas. She embodies outstanding character, fierce determination, and an insatiable thirst for growth and improvement. Tessa is a wonderful teammate who channels her competitive drive to elevate those around her. On the floor, she is a knockdown perimeter shooter who can score from anywhere on the court. She is able to hit shots and effectively stretch the defense at an elite level. We are eager to have Tessa wear the purple and proudly represent us here at St. Thomas!
Lynsey Barnard, head coach at Iowa City: Tessa has been a four-year starter and an incredible leader in our program at City High. Her work ethic, dedication, and drive have been the foundation of her success, and I have no doubt those qualities will continue to shine at the next level. She's a great teammate, extremely coachable, and has played a huge role in our success over the last few years. Tessa understands what it takes to accomplish big goals and never shies away from putting in the time to keep improving. The University of St. Thomas is the perfect fit for her — from the location to the academic and athletic excellence to the coaching staff. I'm so excited to see her thrive and make an impact as a Tommie.
Maya Kovacic (Brookfield, Wis. / East)
A 5'8" combo guard from Brookfield, Wisconsin, Kovacic joins St. Thomas after a stellar prep career with Brookfield East High School and the Wisconsin Lakers. As a sophomore, she earned First Team All-Conference honors and followed that up by being named to Wisconsin's All-State Basketball Team as a junior in 2024-25. She is a 1,000-point scorer and a three-year varsity captain at Brookfield East.
Off the court, Kovacic is a high-achieving student who intends to major in business at St. Thomas. She is trilingual and the daughter of two former collegiate athletes — her mother, Katja Karrento, played tennis at San Diego State, while her father, Karlo, played basketball for the Aztecs.
Sinn's Comments: Maya Kovacic is a crafty, skilled basketball player who possesses an exceptionally high-level understanding of the game. Her ability to score is dynamic, showcasing proficiency at all three levels, both with the ball in her hands and off-ball. She excels at finding ways to create advantages and consistently puts her teammates in a position to be successful. What truly sets Maya apart is her mental approach and big-picture perspective. She is constantly evaluating the team's needs and determining the most effective way to impact the game. This solution-based, team-first attitude is a rare quality that separates her from many others. We are extremely excited to welcome her to the St. Thomas program and have her gifts contribute to our team in a St. Thomas uniform!
Tyler Saxton, head coach at Brookfield East High School: Maya is one of the hardest working athletes I've ever had the privilege to be around, both as a player and a coach. She always leads by example and never settles; always pushing herself to improve. Aside from being able to score at all three levels and being a tremendously gifted athlete, Maya is also one of the best teammates and person you will find. Maya's future is so bright, and we all can't wait to watch Maya play at the next level?
Jayci Rath (Stewartville, Minn. / Stewartville)
Rath put together a standout career at Stewartville High School and will join the Tommies as a forward in 2026-27. At 6'1", she is a two-time All-Conference honoree and a three-time participant in the MSHSL State Tournament. She also competes for the Minnesota Fury AAU program and is a three-year A Honor Roll student.
Rath plans to major in business administration at St. Thomas and has traveled to six countries. She is the daughter of Lucas Rath and Tanya Dessner.
Sinn's comments: Jayci Rath is an exceptionally athletic and versatile addition to our program who can impact the game in countless ways. Her unique ability to defend all five positions—from point guard to center—is rare, and her outstanding lateral speed makes her a dynamic defensive force. Offensively, she is a multidimensional threat who can stretch the floor with her shot, drive effectively to the basket, and score efficiently in the post. Jayci possesses the high-level athleticism required to make an immediate impact. We are eager to work with her and help cultivate her game into a dominating presence on every possession. She is poised to be a powerful force on the floor, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the St. Thomas community!
Tanner Tiege, head coach at Stewartville High School: I am really proud of Jay and the opportunity she has ahead! Jay is someone who has been an integral part of our program over the last four years and we couldn't be more excited for her. Jay has the size and the skill to continue to make strides at the next level and create matchup problems for other teams. Good luck Jay and we wish you the best!
Morgan Staloch (Jordan, Minn. / Jordan)
A 6'0" guard from Jordan, Minnesota, Staloch will add depth to Sinn's roster in 2026-27. As a junior at Jordan High School in 2024-25, she scored her 1,000th career point and moved to 14th on the school's all-time scoring list. She is a multi-time All-Conference honoree, having earned both All-Conference and Honorable Mention accolades during her prep career. Off the court, she is a member of the National Honor Society.
The daughter of Katie and Kyle, both former collegiate athletes, Staloch intends to major in actuarial science and minor in Spanish at St. Thomas.
Sinn's comments: Morgan Staloch is a long, athletic player who brings tremendous versatility to our roster. As a strong, physical perimeter player, she has the capacity to influence the game in numerous ways. Defensively, she is exceptionally tough; her speed and impressive length create significant matchup advantages against opponents. Offensively, Morgan is a multi-faceted creator: she generates opportunities through her perimeter shot, her assertive ability to drive, and her size to score effectively in the post. Additionally, she stands out as a high-impact offensive rebounder. We are genuinely enthusiastic about watching her grow and develop within our system, and we look forward to all she will contribute here at St. Thomas!
Kyle Johnson, head coach at Jordan High School: Morgan is an elite defender and finisher! She is a difference maker on both ends of the floor and has the ability to take over any game! Morgan is also a great leader and a great teammate! Her teammates look up to her and look to her for leadership. She leads by example and is a person of high character! It is an absolute honor and a joy to coach her! Morgan continues to make her mark and leave her legacy as one of the best girls basketball players to play at Jordan High School
Samantha Voll (Monticello, Minn. / Monticello)
Voll is the third in-state recruit for Sinn, making the short trip down I-94 from Monticello to St. Thomas next fall. A three-time All-State honoree, Voll has earned numerous accolades as a guard for Monticello. She is a four-time All-Conference selection and was named the 2024-25 Most Valuable Player of the Mississippi 8 Conference. As a junior, she averaged 22.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 4.4 steals per game, and scored her 1,000th career point as a sophomore in 2023-24. Voll is Monticello's all-time leader in career steals and three-pointers made and also holds the single-season scoring record.
Off the court, Voll maintains a 4.0 GPA and is an honor student. A former competitive dancer for seven years, she is the daughter of Angie and David.
Sinn's comments: Sam Voll is defined by her fierce competitive spirit. This intense will to win is her separating factor—a relentless pursuit of excellence that drives her to always go above and beyond. When she locks onto a goal, her dedication is absolute. Sam is a true all-around player whose presence is felt in every aspect of the game. Defensively, she is quick, athletic, and feisty, bringing high energy and disruption. On the offensive end, she plays with high skill and can attack in a multitude of ways: scoring from the outside, utilizing the dribble to create, and using her strength in the post. She is the kind of player everyone loves competing alongside, as her exceptional court vision and assertive presence elevate the performance of her teammates. I cannot wait to see Sam in a St. Thomas Women's Basketball jersey; I know she will add value to our team in countless ways, both on and off the floor!
Craig Geyen, head coach at Monticello High School: Samantha is a complete player. She makes her teammates better through her play making ability. Sam is the most competitive person I have met and has the highest basketball IQ I have ever coached. She can score at all three levels and makes the right play. She can defend and rebound on both ends of the floor. Young Monticello basketball players want to grow up and be like Sam.
