Olszewski comes off bench to save Men’s Soccer victory

10/4/2025 3:25:00 PM | Men's Soccer

The sophomore goalkeeper made two tremendous saves down the stretch

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Every minute of Tommie Men's Soccer's (6-2-3, 1-1-0) 2025 season saw Moritz Krenc between the posts. That was until the junior goalkeeper went down with an injury in the second half against Oral Roberts (2-7-1, 0-1-0) and Cameron Olszewski was there to answer the call. The sophomore came on in the 61st minute and made a pair of remarkable stops to lead the Toms to a 2-1 conference victory.

The Toms' win was also a program-best sixth in 2025. They remained unbeaten at South Field with a 4-0-2 record.

Game Summary
First Half
-Oral Roberts opened the scoring in the seventh minute of play, the Toms were playing from behind for the third consecutive contest.
-Sid Kerr came on in the 17th and made an instant impact. He landed on the scoresheet with a perfectly placed long ball that landed at the feet of Yanis Lakhlifi. The frenchman took advantage of the pass and found the back of the net to equalize the contest in the 28th minute.
-The Toms earned a corner kick in the 43rd minute and Baraka Kania lobbed a ball into the box where a leaping Simon Klevberg was there to receive and head it into the goal, the first of his career.

Second Half
-The Golden Eagles dominated possession in the second half and forced Krenc into a pair of compromised positions. On the second occasion, he was replaced by Olszewski in the 61st minute due to injury.
-The reserve made two ten-bell saves at 82' and 86' to keep his team ahead. Both times he dove and with full extension deflected the incoming shot out of danger.

Quoting Jon Lowery
"Oral Roberts started off on the front foot and just asked us a ton of questions. We conceded early but the response again from the guys was fantastic. It was a day where we had to use our players properly in the heat. Plenty to improve but from a competitive aspect, we rose to the level of this conference, we got a huge three points. I want to give a shout out to the fans today. They really got us over the line. This place, South Field, could be special. Today was really a team effort, with Moritz leaving the field, Cameron getting his first minutes, Marshall helped out a ton in the midfield and everyone knows who's been doing the heavy lifting around here but I've been preaching to the guys day in and day out it's going to be the totality of the group that's what is going to get us over the line."

Quick Hits
-Simon Klevberg and Gabriel Verona each played all 90 minutes in the high heat.
-Oral Roberts outshot the Tommies 11-6 and 6-4 on goal.
-Krenc made two saves and conceded one, Olszewski made three saves.
