Tommies welcome Summit League foe Omaha

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas swim and dive programs made their Anderson Pool season debut over the weekend. The Tommies hosted Summit League foe the University of Nebraska-Omaha for a two-day dual in St. Paul, Minnesota. Though the Mavericks left the Twin Cities victories, St. Thomas had plenty to be excited about, with career best swims and top-10 times filling up the results.
 
MEN'S RESULTS: ST. THOMAS (77) vs. OMAHA (236)
St. Thomas impressed in the pool over the weekend with several top-5 finishes in multiple events.
  • The Tommies 200 medley relay team of Philip Jensen (Hastings, Minn. / Hastings), Joseph Sandhoefner (Minnetonka, Minn. / Benilde-St. Margaret), Nicholas Salido (Kansas City, Mo. / Rockhurst) and Carter Fask (Elmhurst, Ill. / Fenwick) thrilled in the opening event of the weekend. The race was decided at the wall, as Omaha's "B" team just out touched Fask to win the event. Still, the St. Thomas "A" team finished in second with a time of 1:31.08.
  • Charlie Folks (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie), Tucker Holmes (Rochester, Minn. / John Marshall) and Tommy Seiler (Menomonee Falls, Wis. / Menomonee Falls) earned top-5 finishes in the 1000 freestyle, with Folks finishing second thanks to a time of 9:43.72. Holmes and Folks also placed in the 200 freestyle, and Holmes claimed second in the 200 backstroke as well.
  • Jensen and Lucas Becker (Carver, Minn. / Chanhassen) went 2-3 in the 100 backstroke. Jensen finished second with a time of 50.68, while Becker claimed third with a time of 51.02. Becker also finished third in the 200 backstroke.
  • First year John Trosper (Clive, Iowa / Waukee) finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.71, while Seiler finished third in the same race.
  • Salido nearly came away with an individual victory during Saturday's morning session, coming up just short in the 100 butterfly. The senior finished second by .05 thanks to his time of 49.78.
  • Several other St. Thomas swimmers earned top-five finishes Saturday. Click here for full results.
 
WOMEN'S RESULTS: ST. THOMAS (122) vs. OMAHA (191)
The Tommie women certainly impressed in the pool over the weekend with multiple wins against the Mavericks.
  • Junior Sophia Hayes (Naperville, Ill. / Central) won two individual races over the weekend: the 500 and 1000 free. Hayes, the program record holder in the 1000 free, won the event Friday night with a season-best time of 10:27.63. She then won Saturday's 500 free with a time of 5:03.27.
  • Ellie Undem (Chisago City, Minn. / Chisago Lakes) proved to be the fastest female swimmer in the pool Saturday, winning both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle for the second time this season. She additionally anchored the second place 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.  
  • Maya Kelly (Lake Elmo, Minn. / Stillwater) once again impressed on the boards, winning the 3-meter competition with a score of 250.55. The first year also finished second in 1-meter with a six-dive score of 239.30.
  • Jordyn Davis (Cambridge, Wis. / Cambridge) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.60, and she finished second in the 200 race with a time of 2:04.03. Davis also competed in the 100 butterfly, finishing third.
  • Several other St. Thomas swimmers and divers earned top-five finishes Saturday. Click here for full results.
 
UP NEXT
St. Thomas women will be back in action next weekend, as the Tommies travel to Mankato, Minnesota for a triangular with Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. Both teams will return on November 8 to host St. Cloud State at 10:00 a.m.
