Tommies and Huskies face off for WCHA series

ST. PAUL, MINN- St. Thomas Women's Hockey is set to travel to St. Cloud to take on the Huskies on Friday, Oct. 17th and Saturday, Oct. 18th. Puck drop is slated for 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 17th and 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 18th at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Last Time Out 

The Tommies traveled to Mankato for a WCHA series against the Minnesota State Mavericks. The Purple split the series with the Mavericks after picking up an overtime win in game one and falling in game two. 

In game one, Nora Sauer scored the game-tying goal, her first of the season, and freshman Teagan Kulenkamp scored the overtime game-winner. Julia Minotti tallied 26 saves. 

St. Thomas then fell 3-0 in game two of the series. Minotti recorded 24 saves in the loss.

Rylee Bartz leads the Tommies in game-winning goals and is tied for first in the WCHA (2).

The Tommies have welcomed 11 newcomers to St. Paul ahead of the 2025-26 season. Three transfers and eight freshmen.

Scouting the Huskies 

The St. Cloud offense is led by freshman Maria Mikaelyan who leads the team with four goals. Sophomore defender Siiri Yrjölä leads the way with four assists.  

The Huskies offense averages 2.8 goals per game with a .087 shot percentage.  

St. Cloud is led by first-year head coach Mira Jalosuo who took over the program back in June after serving as an assistant Huskies and the Minnesota Frost.  

 

History with the Huskies 

The Tommies and Huskies will be meeting for the 17th and 18th time after first squaring off back in 2021. 

The last match up between these two squads was back on Feb. 1, 2025. The Tommies picked up the overtime 2-1 victory.  

 

Road Warriors 

St. Thomas will have played eight straight road games before they are set to open Lee & Penny Anderson Arena for the first time on October 24th. The Tommies rattled of the five straight road wins, the best in the Division One era.  

 

Up Next 

The Purple will return to St. Paul on October 24th and 25th for the grand opening of Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. Both the women's and men's teams will be taking on Providence during this historic weekend for Tommie Athletics. Between the games on Friday, be sure to check out Purple on the Plaza sponsored by Wings Credit Union from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
