Women’s Hockey secures 2-1 overtime victory over Minnesota State

MANKATO, MINN. - The St. Thomas Tommies (5-0-0) opened up WCHA play with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Minnesota State Mavericks (4-1-0). Freshman Teagan Kulenkamp scored the game winning goal 2:15 into the five-minute overtime.
Quick Hits
Both the Mavericks and the Tommies scored in the first period and then were deadlocked through the next two periods to force overtime. Teagan Kulenkamp then secured the St. Thomas victory in overtime.
Scoring Summary:
First Period: After a scoreless first 14 minutes of the period, the Mavericks broke the 0-0 tie to take a 1-0 lead with 5 to play in the period. Nora Sauer then scored her first goal of the season off assists from Julianna Gazdik and Cara Sajevic to knot the game one at the end of the first.
Second Period: Although the second period was scoreless, the Tommies did produce nine shots. Goalie Julia Minotti chipped in six saves.
Third Period: The third period was also scoreless as the Tommies had a goal waived off with 54 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.
Overtime: Teagan Kulenkamp scored 2:15 into the overtime off assists from Ella Berger and Julianna Gazdik
