Men’s Soccer opens conference play, hosts Kansas City for Saturday matchup

The Tommies face first league opponent of 2024 campaign

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Thomas men's soccer team begins conference play, welcomes Kansas City to South Field on Sept. 28 at 1:00 p.m.

Home Gameday Need to Know 
  • Admission to Tommie Men's Soccer is free all season long. 
  • Visitor Parking is available in the Anderson Parking Facility on South Campus.  
  • When navigating to the stadium from the Anderson Parking Facility please follow the posted signs directing you to the entrance. 
There will be no concessions available for the 2024 season. 
 
Head Coach Jon Lowery
Jon Lowery built a nationally-respected Division III soccer program with the Tommies last decade, and now he's busy in building mode in Division I.

The 2024 season marks Lowery's 13th season as a head coach for the Tommie Men's Soccer program. Lowery coached his 200th game with St. Thomas Men's Soccer in 2022 season is the longest tenured coach at his school among the Summit men's soccer coaches.

Lowery's 2023 squad earned a hard-fought victory over Chicago State in September, followed by an impressive shutout win against Milwaukee the following month. Ending the season on a high note, the Tommies secured a home win over Western Illinois to finish the 2023 season.
 
Meet the Newcomers
Tommie men's soccer welcomes 15 newcomers to their roster ahead of the 2024 season. Nine transfers and six freshmen make up the incoming class:

Last Time Out
The St. Thomas Men's Soccer team welcomed the Lindenwood Lions to South Field last Sunday afternoon. In the competitive matchup, the Tommies faced their first home setback of the season, falling to Lindenwood in the second meeting between the two squads.
 
Charlie Hoelscher recorded his first collegiate goal, scoring late in the first half to tie the game heading into half.
 
Early in the second half, the Lions once again scored on a corner kick opportunity. Adding two shots in the second half, both from Gunnar Busch, St. Thomas was unable to find the equalizer, ultimately falling to Lindenwood 2-1.
 
Tommie Seniors
Faris Colic, Charlie Holton, and Keegan James are playing their fourth and final season in purple. The group has combined for 17 goals and seven assists, each playing over 2100 minutes on the field in their careers and leading the Tommies through the transition to Division I athletics.
 
Summit League Leaders
Two Tommies rank in the top five in multiple conference leader categories.
 
Totaling 34 saves so far this season, Moritz Krenc ranks first among Summit League goalkeepers in total saves, and second in saves/game (4.86).
 
Faris Colic ranks third in the conference in shots per game (2.57), and fifth in both goals (4) and total points (10).
 
Recording an assist in the match against Lindenwood, Faris Colic has become the first Tommie in the DI-era to reach 10 points in a single season.
 
March to the Summit 
After finishing the 2023 season with a 3-10-3 record, the Tommies were selected to finish fifth in the 2024 Summit League Men's Soccer preseason poll.
 
Graduate Student, Sid Kerr and junior midfielder Gunnar Busch were selected as players to watch this upcoming season. Busch started in all 16 matches for the Tommies a season ago, while Kerr is beginning his first collegiate season stateside after playing the previous two seasons for Barwell Football Club in his native England.
 
Scouting the Roos
The Kansas City men's soccer program (5-2-2 overall) is led by Head Coach Ryan Pore in his fifth season with the Roos.
 
A season ago, the Roos finished 4-8-6 overall (2-3-3 Summit League), including a conference semifinal PK win over No. 23 Denver.
 
Playing and starting in nine games, junior Elie Kisoka leads the Kansas City and Summit League offense, totaling 15 points (6G, 3A).
