Men’s Soccer and DePaul draw even in St. Paul

8/29/2024 4:06:00 PM | Men's Soccer

Faris Colic nets his first of the season to lead the Tommies to a draw with Big East opponent

St. Paul, Minn. – The St. Thomas Men's Soccer team returned home for a Thursday afternoon match against the DePaul Blue Demons. In a back-and-forth match, the Tommies (1-1-1) were pushed to a 1-1 tie with DePaul (1-1-1) on South Field.

RECAP
St. Thomas took the early lead on South Field as Faris Colic netted his first of the season. The senior found the back of the net in the 21st minute of play, as the Tommies held the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

As St. Thomas held the one-goal advantage, both teams kept each other at bay for the final 24 minutes of the first half with each attack failing to pull ahead. St. Thomas' defense held the Blue Demons to two shots on goal in the first half, as the Tommie offense kept up the pressure.

DePaul found the equalizer late in the game, scoring the tying goal with just over eight minutes to play. Both sides saw chances to win the game, but time ultimately ran before either side could come out victorious.

Two new Tommies made an appearance on South Field this afternoon as Tyler Walser and Ciro Sorrentino made their debuts in purple.

The Tommies are now unbeaten in their last six home contests, including a 3-1-2 record on South Field during the 2023 season.

QUOTABLE
"We welcomed a Big East team onto South Field after they have played really well in their opening two games" Head Coach Jon Lowery said. "I give the team so much credit because we came back from Spokane ready to work. I loved the response and I'm really proud of the effort today "
