Tommies secure series against Omaha, remain on top of the Summit League standings

Brigs Richartz finished the day with three hits, including two home runs in back-to-back at bats

OMAHA, Neb. –  St. Thomas baseball completed  its weekend series against the Omaha Mavericks on Sunday afternoon. In the Summit League battle, the Tommies (20-23, 14-9 Summit) defeated Omaha (16-28-1, 14-12-1 Summit) in a one-run game at Tal Anderson Field.
 
In the back-and-forth ballgame, the Tommies took the lead in the top of the seventh frame, holding the advantage the remainder of the game to defeat Omaha 6-5 and remain on top of the conference standings.
 
Brigs Richartz recorded the first three RBIs of the game, including two solo home runs in back-to-back at bats. Richartz finished the day 3-for-4, recording multi-hit games in two of three contests this weekend.
 
Max Nyrop broke the tie in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run, his second homer of the weekend. Matthew Maulik and Tanner Recchio each recorded two hits, including a double on Sunday afternoon.
 
Devon Schewe, Max Skilbeck (3-0) and Carl Cano combined for seven strikeouts in the final game against the Mavericks. Holding the one-run lead in the final inning, Cano earned his sixth save of the season to help lift the Tommies over to the Mavericks.
