Women’s Golf in second after two rounds at the Stampede at the Creek

The Tommies have two of the top three individual golfers, both within three strokes of the overall lead.
OMAHA, Neb. – St. Thomas Women's Golf positioned itself well for a possible fourth tournament victory of the 2023-24 season in second place, eight strokes out of first at the ten-team Stampede at the Creek.
The Toms are behind Summit League foe North Dakota State and three strokes ahead of South Dakota State. They hold both second and third place on the individual side with freshman Kathryn VanArragon's 147 (+3) and junior Isabelle Lynch's 148 (+4). NDSU's Jo Baranczyk holds the overall lead with a 145 (+1).
VanArragon holds the tournament low score on par 4s, scoring -2 with an average score of 3.9 strokes per hole. Emma Davies was one of just five who scored under par on par 5s (-1). Courtney Wedin eagled hole one of round one (her 17th hole after starting on the third), was the only eagle by any of the 64-golfer field.
St. Thomas' leader, Kathryn VanArragon, recovered after two bogeys on two of her first holes of round one to finish even (72) with two birdies on holes 11 and 16. Her second round began with a birdie on the second hole followed by four bogeys on five, six, seven, and eight. She shot even on the back nine with one more birdie and bogey. Her 75 (+3) placed her with a day one total of 147 (+3), just two strokes outside first place.
Isabelle Lynch finished the day with a 148 (+4) and moved up 10 spots after shooting even during round two. She had some work to do with six bogeys during her first round. She recovered wonderfully with a -2 on the front nine with birdies on holes three and eight. Her two bogeys on the back nice returned her to par after the second 18.
Courtney Wedin had an inverse day, with a first-round score seven strokes better than her second. Overall, her 155 (+11) settled her in a tie for 18th place with one more round left to play.
Emma Davies shot a 77 (+5) and 81 (+9) for an overall score of 158 (+14) for a tie for 29th place.
Caroline Monty and freshman Nicole Reineke rounded out the Tommies order with a 160 (+16) and 164 (+20) respectively.
