Nicole Reineke leads the Tommies with 8th place finish.
MAYETTA, Kan. – The University of St. Thomas Women's Golf team played its best golf of the tournament during the final round, but it was not enough to gain ground on the overall leaderboard as the Tommies finished tied for third place at the Summit League Championship.
The conference tournament capped a tremendous season of growth for the women's golf team. The Purple improved from a seventh-place finish last season to a podium this season.
Individually, freshman Nicole Reineke led the Tommies from wire-to-wire and ultimately placed eighth with an overall score of 223 (+7) through 54 holes. Reineke bounced back from a frustrating second round (81) with a 73 (+1) on the final day of competition. She birdied three but bogeyed four on the front nine. She shot even on the back nine thanks to a two-stroke eagle on the 15th hole.
Isabelle Lynch finished three strokes behind her teammate with a 226 (+10) for a tie in 11th place. Lynch played her best golf of the tournament on Tuesday with a personal low of 73 (+1). She gained two spots on the leaderboard to secure a top-15 finish. She shot even with a pair of birdies and bogeys on the front nine but lost a stroke on the back with two bogeys and a third birdie.
A pair of Tommies finished in a two-way tie for 17th place at 230 (+14). Both Courtney Wedin (73) and Kathryn VanArragon (75) shot their lowest on the final day of the tournament. Wedin's 73 allowed her to move up four spots as VanArragon remained stagnant.
Emma Davies finished five strokes behind those two in 24th place at 235 (+19). She too finished out strong with her tournament-best 77 +(5) in the final round.
Quoting Coach Hanneman
"I am tremendously proud of the way this group battled all season long. This is not the result that I wanted, and I know it is not the result they wanted. However, the progress we have made in a short period of time is remarkable and I am beyond excited for what is to come for this group of student athletes."
