13 runs scored in the first three innings, with no runs allowed the remainder of the game as the Tommies defeated the Screaming Eagles

EVANSVILLE, Ind.St. Thomas baseball picked up a win against Southern Indiana in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.
 
There were 13 runs scored in the first three innings, with no runs allowed the remainder of the game as the Tommies defeated the Screaming Eagles, 7-6.
 
RECAP
St. Thomas recorded two triples in the first inning, including a 2-RBI triple from Brigs Richartz, putting the Tommies on the board first in series finale.
 
Southern Indiana responded, scoring three runs of its own at the bottom of the first.
 
Matthew Maulik recorded the Tommies' third triple to start the second inning, and scored the Purple's third run of the game as Jordan Dahlof recorded his first hit and RBI of the season. Vujovich and Richartz recorded back-to-back doubles, combining for three RBIs to lift the Tommies 6-3 in top of second inning.
 
Scoring a three-run inning once again, the Screaming Eagles evened the score 6-6 in the bottom of the second.   
 
After adding one run in the third inning, the Tommies held the 7-6 lead through the remainder of the game.
 
Kolby Gartner (1-0) started in his first game of the season, allowing nine hits through 5.0 innings. Marcus Kruzan pitched season-high 3.0 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out four batters.
 
Carl Cano earned the save against Southern Indiana, entering the game in the top of the ninth. Cano threw two strikeouts to end the game and secure the Tommies' 7-6 victory on Sunday afternoon.
 
TOMMIE TIDBITS
  • The Tommies' three triples against Southern Indiana is a single game record for Baseball in the DI-era
  • Richartz went 4-for-4, and recorded career-high four RBIs.
  • Along with Richartz, Maulik went 4-for-4 at the plate. The duo combined for eight of 12 hits for the Tommies.
