Women’s Tennis welcomes No.37 Denver and Northern Iowa

The Tommies open conference play against No. 37 Denver on Saturday and host Northern Iowa on Sunday afternoon

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Tennis team is set to host two matches this weekend.  The Tommies open conference play against the No. 37-ranked University of Denver Pioneers on Saturday, March 2. The Tommies will host the Northern Iowa Panthers on Sunday – both matches taking place at noon at Life Time 98th St.  
 
History against opponents 
  • Denver holds a 2-0 record over St. Thomas, winning both matches 7-0. This will be the first time the two teams meet in Minnesota 
  • Northern Iowa holds a 2-0 record in the DI-era, and 3-0 overall record over the Tommies. St. Thomas fell by scores of 6-1 (Feb. 2022) and 4-3 (Feb. 2023) to the Panthers. This will be the first time the two teams meet in Minnesota 
 
Last Time Out 
St. Thomas played SIUE on the road on Feb. 18, where the Cougars topped the Tommies 5-2.  
 
In the No. 3 and No. 5 spots, St. Thomas freshmen Caroline Lindahl (6-2, 6-1) and Yinong Ma (6-2, 7-5) earned victories in singles action.  Ma now holds a 6-1 overall record against opponents in the No. 5 singles spot. 
 
Strong Start 
St. Thomas has started the 2024 season strong, recording a 4-3 record in its first seven matches.  
 
The Tommies have tied their win record in the DI era (4) and have doubled the number of victories from a season ago.  
 
The doubles pairing of Yinong Ma and Olivia Paradise continue to remain dominant in doubles play, posting a 5-1 overall record in doubles competition so far this season. 
 
The duo also leads the Tommies is singles action. Yinong Ma holds a 6-1 record at the No. 5 singles spot and Olivia Paradise has posted a 4-3 record at the No. 4 spot. 
 
Spring Schedule 
The Tommie Tennis spring season will consist of 21 matches, including seven at home. Summit League play begins for the Tommies when they host Denver on March 2. The Purple will face off with six Summit League opponents, consisting of three home and three away matches. 
 
The Tommies will be road warriors the back half of the season, playing the final seven of eight matches on the road. During this time St. Thomas will travel down to Louisiana and Mississippi to play four non-conference opponents.
