Women’s Tennis set to play weekend matches against Western Illinois and Minnesota at Baseline

The Tommies will host the Leathernecks and face the Gophers in Minneapolis this weekend

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Tennis team continues competition, facing non-conference opponents Western Illinois and Minnesota this weekend. The Tommies are set to host the Leathernecks on Friday, Feb. 9th at 2:00 p.m. and play the Gophers on Saturday, Feb. 10th at 4:00 p.m at Baseline Tennis Center.
 
History against Opponents
St. Thomas Tennis and Western Illinois have competed in two matches in the past two season. The Tommies have a 2-0 record over the Leathernecks, winning both at home and on the road.
 
The Tommie and Gopher tennis programs are also familiar with one another, facing off twice in the past two season. St. Thomas has been defeated by the Gophers twice at Baseline.
 
Last Time Out
The St. Thomas women's tennis team continued its spring season on the road.
 
In match one of the weekend, the Tommies defeated Bradley 4-2. The doubles pair of Olivia Paradise and Yinong Ma earned a doubles win, as well as victories in their singles matches, going undefeated against the Braves. 

With the 3-0 start to the season, the St. Thomas women's tennis team surpassed their win total from a season ago, earning three wins against non-conference opponents to start the season.

In match two of the weekend, The Tommies fell to Valparaiso on the road, 4-3.
 
Spring Schedule
The Tommie Tennis spring season will consist of 21 matches, including seven at home. Summit League play begins for the Tommies when they host Denver on March 2. The Purple will face off with six Summit League opponents, consisting of three home and three away matches.
 
The Tommies will be road warriors the back half of the season, playing the final seven of eight matches on the road. During this time St. Thomas will travel down to Louisiana and Mississippi to play four non-conference opponents.
 
The Tommies return seven letter winners from a season ago and bring in two newcomers. Junior, Marthe Degeorges was among 12 players named to the All-Summit League team in women's tennis for 2023 after she won 10 contests at first singles. Junior, Shrichandrakala Tentu has nine doubles wins and eight singles wins in her two-year career with the Tommies.
