Baseball sweeps Saturday doubleheader at SEMO

The Tommies win three in a row against the Redhawks
Cape Girardeau, Mo. -- The St. Thomas baseball team swept the Saturday doubleheader, defeating SEMO 3-2 and 12-3.
The Tommies allowed just seven hits in the entirety of the doubleheader.
Jacob Mrosko threw 12 strikeouts in complete game to lift Tommies over Redhawks in game one of the day, 3-2.
In game two, Ben Vujovich went 4-for-4 in at bats, tallying two RBIs. Evan Esch (1-1), Tucker Huhn and Kolby Gartner combined for eight strikeouts in the 12-3 win over the Redhawks.
Game One – W, 3-2
The game remained scoreless through four innings, with neither team recording a hit through the first three innings. Brigs Richartz recorded the first hit of the game for the Tommies, singling to right field in the top of the fourth.
Joe Vos opened the fifth inning with a leadoff double. After advancing off a sacrifice fly by Ben Taxdahl, Vos scored the first run of the game after being drove home by Mikey Gottschalk. The Tommies then added their second run and third consecutive hit of the inning with an RBI single from Vujovich.
At the top of the seventh inning, Nyrop launched his second homer of the weekend, extending the Tommies' lead 3-0.
SEMO added two runs in the bottom of the final inning, however the comeback bid was not enough as the final Redhawks batter grounded out to Tanner Recchio to end the inning.
Jacob Mrosko (1-0) started in his second game of the season on the mound. Mrosko contributed 12 strikeouts, allowing just two runs and three hits through seven innings.
Game Two – W, 12-3
SEMO recorded the first run of the game at the bottom of the third inning, however the Tommies totaled 10 runs through the next three innings to take a dominant lead over the Redhawks.
The Tommies began their offensive burst as Brigs Richartz recorded an RBI single to right field in the top of the fourth inning.
In the top of the fifth inning, Max Moris drove in a 2-RBI single to extend Tommies lead 7-1. Ben Trucke then recorded his first career hit, hitting an RBI single to add to the Purple's lead.
In the top of the ninth, Ben Vujovich hit a 2-RBI triple to send home St. Thomas' 12th and 13th run of the game, and was just a home run away from completing a cycle.
Evan Esch (1-1) threw the first 5.0 innings, allowing two runs and recording three strikeouts. Tucker Huhn and Kolby Gartner closed the final 4.0 innings, combining for eight strikeouts with no hits and one run allowed.
