Women’s Hockey drops game one to Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team traveled north for a series against the Bemidji State Beavers. Scoring three unanswered goals, Bemidji State (2-10-1, 1-8-0 WCHA) earned a 4-1 victory over St. Thomas (5-7-1, 2-6-1 WCHA) in game one at the Sanford Center.

Bemidji State opened scoring early in the first period on Friday evening. The Beaver's goal was the lone score of the frame, as the home team went into the first intermission with a one goal lead.

Just 29 seconds into the second period, Chloe Boreen found the back of the net off a stretch pass from Madison Brown, scoring her fourth of the season and tying the game at 1-1.

However, the Beavers regained the lead midway through the middle frame, and once again took the one-goal advantage into the second break.

Early in the third period, Bemidji State added two goals and extended its lead to 4-1.

Holding the 8-5 advantage in shots on goal in the final period, St. Thomas was unable to put another puck past the Bemidji State goaltender, ultimately falling in game one.

There were six penalties assessed throughout tonight's game, as the Tommies successfully defended two Beaver power plays.
