THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
  • St. Thomas (2-5-2 overall, 1-2-1 CCHA) will face-off for a two-game home series with the Bowling Green Falcons (5-3-0 overall, 2-0-0 CCHA) this weekend. Friday's game is set for a 7:07 p.m. puck drop at Saint Thomas Ice Arena and Saturday's game will start at 6:07 p.m.
  • The first 250 fans in attendance to Saturday's game will be given a free Tommie Hawaiian shirt.
  • The final two games of this four-game season series with the Falcons will be played in Bowling Green, Ohio on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8.
  • The history between the two teams has been mostly dominated by Bowling Green. The Falcons won the first six games of the series by a combined score of 19-9. The Tommies took their first game from the Falcons on 1/19/23 with a 4-2 win in Mendota Heights. St. Thomas has just one loss since that first win and are 3-1-2 overall over the last six matchups. They won their first season series against the Falcons last year, taking seven of the 12 available points.
  • The Falcons are coming into play this weekend fresh off a bye after sweeping the Ferris State Bulldogs on Nov. 1-2, 2-0 and 5-4. Bowling Green has defeated Mercyhurst, RIT, and Ferris State so far this season. Offensively they are led by sophomore Brody Waters with six goals and one assist for seven points. Five of his six goals have come on the power play for a unit that is 8-33 (24.2%) to start the season. Waters is the only player in the CCHA with a hat trick this season with three goals in his last game against Ferris State, all three on the power play. Sophomore Cole Moore has been the only man between the pipes for the Falcons this season with a 5-3-0 record, 2.62 GAA and .917SV%. Moore played in two games against the Tommies last season with a 1-0-1 record, 0.58 GAA and .984 SV%.
  • St. Thomas looks to bounce back from a frustrating series against Minnesota State where they held the lead in both games but lost on Friday, 5-3 and tied, 1-1, on Saturday. The Tommies salvaged one of the possible six points from the weekend with a loss Saturday's shootout. Liam Malmquist continued his hot start to the season with a two-point game last Friday, He remains the Tommies team leader with 11 points and currently leads the CCHA with 1.22 points per game, one of three players in the conference with at least one point per game. The Toms were back to splitting time in net last weekend with Aaron Trotter taking the reins in game one and Jake SIbell back between the posts for game two. Trotter is 2-3-0 with a 2.83 GAA and .891 SV% while Sibell is 0-2-2 with a 3.38 GAA and .887 SV%. The Tommies are scoring 2.33 goals per game, T-5th in the conference, and are allowing 3.22 goals per game, 6th in the conference. With their three power play goals last weekend they are moving along at a 12.9% clip, good for 6th in the CCHA while their penalty killing unit is third-best in the conference at 85%.

Bowling Green is 7-3-2 all-time against the Tommies with an overall goal differential of +6. The Tommies have punched back with a 3-3-2 record over the past two seasons and a season series win in 2023-24 (2-1-1). The Toms are 1-3-2 at home against the Falcons.

The Falcons have owned the special teams matchup in their 12-game history against the Tommies. They kept St. Thomas from scoring on the power play through the first eight games (0-33) until Liam Malmquist scored one last season on 11/10/23 in a 4-1 victory. The Toms have since gone 3-15 (20% in four games) after that scoreless stretch for a complete power play tally of 3-48 (6.3%). They have scored power play goals in each of their last two games (Luc Laylin and Matthew Gleason). On the other side of the coin, Bowling Green's power play could not be stopped through their first six games against the Tommies going 8-24 (33.3%), they have since been held to 3-17 (17.6%) for a total of 11-41 (26.8%).

The Toms took the season series last year with a 2-1-1 record with both wins coming on the road 4-1 and 4-3. Cooper Gay had the game winning goal in first period of the 4-1 victory and Quinton Pepper scored the game winner in the second game in the final three minutes of the third period for his first career goal. Bowling Green took the extra point from a shootout in a 3-3 tie before winning the final game of the season series, 3-1 at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.

He matched the Tommies' single-season program record for goals by a defenseman in just one weekend. The sophomore is now tied with Ethan Gauer (2022-23) and Trevor Zins (2021-22). He also surpassed his freshman season goal total of two.

After a week off for the Toms' early season bye, Poolman added an assist in St. Thomas' game-two loss against #5 Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center.

Junior goaltender, Aaron Trotter added his fifth career point with an assist on Cooper Gay's empty-net goal at the end of the Toms' 3-1 win over Vermont two weekends ago. As of the Saturday in which Trotter added his fifth point, there were just seven active goaltenders with two points and 25 goalies with at least one point. One of those 25 other goalies is Jake Sibell with one career point scored last season for St. Thomas.
