Women’s Hockey earns weekend sweep against the Eagles

Strom records first collegiate win in 4-1 victory over Post

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team completed its first weekend series against the Post Eagles on Saturday evening. After a victory in game one, the Tommies (2-0-0) completed the weekend sweep with a 4-1 victory over Post (0-2-0) at home.
 
RECAP
After a scoreless 10 minutes at Saint Thomas Ice Arena, Ellah Hause recorded the first goal of the night for St. Thomas. Hause's first of the season was the lone goal of the period, sending the Tommies into the first intermission with the 1-0 lead.

The Tommies added two goals in the second, extending their lead through 40 minutes of play. Madison Brown tallied the first goal of the period, recording her second goal of the weekend at the midpoint of the middle frame.

Just five minutes later, Rylee Bartz extended the Purple's lead, scoring her first of the season.
 
After recording 11 shots in the first period, St. Thomas added 23 in the second, bringing their two-period total to 34 shots on goal. The Tommies outshot the Eagles 54-8 in game two of the weekend.
 
There were seven penalties assessed during the game, including five in the final 20 minutes.
 
During the third frame, Post was sent to the box for back-to-back penalties, putting St. Thomas on a two-player advantage. On the Tommies' 5-on-3, Bartz scored goal the Purple's first power play goal of the season and her second of the game. Hause and Cailin Mumm assisted on the goal, as Mumm tallied her first collegiate point.
 
Shortly after the Tommies' fourth goal, the Eagles added a power play goal of their own, scoring Post's lone goal of the weekend.
 
With 3:52 to play, the Eagles were assessed a five-minute major, putting St. Thomas on the player advantage for the remainder of the game. The Tommies ultimately completed the sweep, defeating Post 4-1.
 
Freshman Dani Strom made her collegiate debut, tallying seven saves and earning her first win as a Tommie.

St. Thomas Women's Hockey opens WCHA play against Minnesota State on Oct. 11-12.
