Women’s Hockey defeats Minnesota State 3-2, earns WCHA weekend sweep

Madison Brown scores game-winning goal with 22 seconds remaining to secure victory for the Tommies
MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Thomas women's hockey team traveled to Mankato to complete its first WCHA series of the season. Scoring with less than a minute remaining in regulation, the Tommies (4-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) defeated Minnesota State (2-2-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) to earn their second consecutive weekend sweep to start the season.
RECAP
Recording her second goal of the season, Chloe Boreen opened scoring at Mayo Clinc HSEC just a minute into game two of the weekend. Leading the Tommies offensively, Boreen has totaled six points in four games played to begin her collegiate career.
Extending the lead for St. Thomas, Maddy Clough tallied the second goal of the afternoon with just over five minutes to play in the first period. Minnesota State responded quickly, recording its first goal late in the opening period and sending the game into the first intermission as a one-score game.
The Mavericks added the lone goal in the middle frame, tying the game at two goals apiece through 40 minutes of play.
Through a scoreless 19 minutes in the final period of the series, St. Thomas competed the find the go-ahead goal, out shooting the Mavericks 11-7.
With just 22 seconds to play, Madison Brown tipped in a pass from Ella Boerger, scoring the game-winning goal to secure the weekend sweep for the Tommies.
Calla Frank moves to 3-0 on the season, adding 24 saves against the Mavericks.
The Tommies have now won four consecutive games, and five of the last seven contests against Minnesota State.
