Holton and Colic score in a tie against the Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – It was a competitive night for the St. Thomas Men's Soccer team as they were welcomed to Jacksonville with a physical style of play by the Ospreys. However, the Tommies battled back to earn a tie on the road against North Florida.

RECAP
The Tommie men's soccer team leaned on their defense early, as they defended all three of the Ospreys shot attempts and did not allow a shot on goal until the until the final eight minutes of play in the first half.

North Florida opened scoring with their first shot on goal of the night, as they capitalized on a penalty kick during the 37th minute of play.

Shortly after, the Tommies responded with offense of their own as Charlie Holton scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick just two minutes after UNF's tally. The Tommies and Ospreys entered halftime knotted at one.

The match continued to be back-and-forth during the second half. There were no shots on goal for either squad up until the midpoint of the second half, when the Ospreys produced their second goal of the night.

Similar to earlier in the match, the Tommies fought back and found a way to notch their second equalizing goal late in the game. The game-tying goal was netted by Faris Colic, with assists coming from Keegan James and Issac Eckroth.

Neither team was able to score in the remaining 10 minutes of the match, resulting in a 2-2 tie.

TOP TOMMIES
· Junior forward, Faris Colic, scored his first goal of the season and fifth of his career. Colic's five career goals are a program best in the DI era for the Tommies.
· Junior defender, Charlie Holton, scored his first goal of the season and the fourth goal of his career.
· Fifth year defender, Isaac Eckroth, recorded his fifth career assist. Eckroth, alongside Wes Lorrens, lead the Tommies in playing time this season. Both have started and competed in all four full games.
· Junior midfielder, Keegan James, earned his second career assist.

QUOTEABLES
Thoughts from head coach Jon Lowery after the 2-2 tie:
"The commitment, resolve and determination was right where it needed to be. Game plan held up and this is the step we needed to come tighter and believe in ourselves.  Really proud of the guys, staff and coaches and can't wait until we do this again in Boston Saturday."
