Women's Soccer returns home for the first time in 40 days; hosts Denver and NDSU

The Tommies have won one game since leaving the friendly confines of South Field as they look to get back on track at home

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Thomas Women's Soccer Team (2-3-3 overall 0-1 Summit) returns to South Field for the first time in 40 days for two games against Summit League opponents as Denver (5-1-4, 1-0-0) and North Dakota State (4-3-4, 0-0-2) come into town. 
 
The Tommies have won one game since leaving the friendly confines of South Field in St. Paul and have come away with three ties in the other five road games. They have scored seven goals in two games at home and seven goals in six games on the road. 
 
As for their opponents, the Denver Pioneers find themselves in second place in the conference with just one loss to their name in ten games, the best mark in the Summit. The Bison have two Summit League games under their belts and two ties to show for it, 1-1 and 2-2 against Kansas City and Omaha at home, respectively. 
 
St. Thomas is 0-2 against Denver with a 2-1 loss at home in 2021 and 4-1 loss on the road in 2022, Jasmine Gates and Lexi Huber each have a goal against the Pioneers.
 
The Purple are 1-1 in two close games against North Dakota State with a 1-0 double overtime loss at home in 2021 and a 3-2 win last season in Fargo. All three goals were scored by different Toms, Annika Eckroth, Mariah Nguyen, and Jasmine Gates

South Dakota Game Recap
Women's Soccer came up short against South Dakota, falling 3-1 on the road in Vermillion. Molly Knoblauch scored the first goal of her career with Mariah Ngyuen assisting to extend her point streak to three games. 
 
The Tommies outshot the Coyotes 14-11, but South Dakota was better able to capitalize on their chances. 
 
Olivia Rowe made three saves on the six shots on goal that came her way. 
 
"We came out slow and we were outworked but came out strong in the second half," commented head coach Sheila McGill, "we created good opportunities and finished one but in conference play we need to play a complete game."
 
Scouting the Pioneers
Denver began the 2023 season without a single loss in their first eight games, a stretch that included a 2-0 win over Power 5 opponent Oregon on the road. That impressive streak came to an end with a 3-1 loss to the Colorado Buffaloes, but the Pioneers got back on track with a 1-0 victory over Oral Roberts to begin Summit League play. 
 
Julianne Sitch is at the helm of Denver for the first time in 2023. Sitch was most recently the head coach of the DIII National Champion University of Chicago men's team where she led the Maroons to a 22-0-1 record in 2022. 
 
The Pioneers are outscoring their opponents 23-12 this season and are currently top two in the Summit League in goals per game (2.3), average margin of victory (1.1), and shots (175). 
 
Freshman midfielder, Liv Moritz leads the team with 14 points (5G 4A) with Kaitlyn Glover (4G 2A 10P), Riley Baker (2G, 3A, 7P), and Camryn MacMillan (2G 3A 7P) rounding out the top three in terms of offensive production. 
 
Molly Wissman, freshman goalkeeper, has played every minute of every game this season. She has allowed a 1.2 goals against average and a .647 save percentage, with 12 goals given up in 34 shots on goal.  
 
Scouting the Bison
North Dakota State has not lost a game since Sept. 10 when they lost to Creighton 3-2. They are 3-1-3 in their last seven games and have a matchup with South Dakota State on Sept. 28 before heading over to St. Paul to face the Tommies. 
 
Mike Regan is in his sixth season as head coach for the Bison. 
 
Offensively they are led by Olivia Watson (4G 1A 9P), Kelsey Kallio (2G 3A 7P), and Amaya Garrett (3G 6P).   
 
Abby Wilkinson has played every minute of every game in goal for the Bison. She has a 1.27 goals against average and a .781 save percentage. She has allowed 14 goals on 64 shots on goal.
