Men's Golf lands five on Scholar All-American list

St. Paul, Minn. – Tommie Men's Golf has five players – Matthew Armstrong, Will Frazier, Matthew Garside, Matthew Raab, and Glavine Schugel – named to the 2022-23 Scholar All-America Team selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). 
 
To qualify for this honor student athletes must have competed in 50% of their team's competitive rounds with a stroke average under 76.0 and maintained a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. 
 
Armstrong averaged a 73.92 over 26 rounds of play and added six top-20 showings including a third-place finish at the WIU Invitational in which he shot a 215 over three rounds. The accounting major is entering his senior season with St. Thomas. 
 
Frazier's junior season was a competitive one, he averaged a 74.05 over 20 rounds of play. His top-25 performance at the Summit League Championships was just one of his six top-25 showings. Will is entering his final season with the Tommies and is majoring in business. 
 
Matthew Garside completed his second full season in purple after competing at the University of Iowa. He shot a 75.04 over 26 rounds in 2022-'23 and finished in the top-25 on four occasions. He led the Tommies in the Summit League Championships with a team-best 18th place finish. The Bettendorf, Iowa native is majoring in finance and minoring in data analytics.
 
Raab finished out his Tommie career with a very fine season, shooting a 74.70 over the course of the season. Matthew finished fifth at two tournaments including a dazzling outing at the Big O Tournament. He completed his degree in finance in May of 2023. 
 
Schugel averaged a 75.55 over 20 rounds in 2022-'23. Glavine finished in the top-25 five times during his junior season, highlighted by a ninth-place finish at the NDSU Fall Invitational. Schugel is majoring in business management. 
 
These five helped propel head coach Matt Rachey's squad to three first place finishes at the Big O Classic, the TPC Deere Run Invitational, and the Stampede at the Creek out of 14 teams, 10 teams, and eight teams, respectively. 
 
The Tommies enter the 2023-'24 season with high hopes and a tough schedule. Their journey begins on Sept. 5-6 at the Hawkeye Fall Classic hosted by the University of Iowa in Riverside, Iowa.
