Last Time Out
Tommie Softball was limited to two runs and four hits over 14 innings on the day in Saturday's 7-2 and 3-0 road losses at South Dakota.

The Purple (16-33 overall, 4-12 Summit) held a 1-0 lead in game one through three innings. But the Coyotes erupted for five runs in the fourth inning, and never trailed again.

Avery Wukawitz singled and scored in the first inning. Katie Goelz scored on Kameron Monson's RBI double in the seventh inning. Goelz singled in the fifth inning.

In game two, South Dakota (21-23, 10-6) received a one-hit shutout from Kori Wedeking, who had no walks and four Ks and retired 21 of the 22 batters she faced. After Abbi Stierlen's leadoff single in the third inning, Wedeking set down the final 15 Tommie batters.

St. Thomas' Isabelle True had a complete game in the second contest as she allowed four hits, one walk and three runs over her six innings.

Host South Dakota erupted for nine runs after two were out in the fourth inning Sunday to erase a 7-0 deficit and went on to score a 12-8 victory over St. Thomas Softball to complete a sweep of a three-game weekend series.

The Purple (16-34 overall, 4-13 Summit) had 11 hits, including two triples and four doubles. They left eight runners on base. They lost despite two-hit offensive performances by Brooke Ellestad (two doubles), Coryn Jacobson and Abbi Stierlen, plus triples by Avery Wukawitz and Katie Goelz, and Kam Monson's two-run double.

Tommie starter Kiera Murphy retired 11 of the first 12 Coyote batters, including the first two of the fourth inning, and had a no-hitter through that 3 2-3 innings span. After USD erupted with five singles and two walks, Murphy was replaced with the lead trimmed to 7-4 and the bases still loaded.

South Dakota tied the game at 7-7 with a bases-clearing double, went ahead to stay on an RBI double, and capped the uprising with an RBI single.

The Coyotes (22-23, 11-6) pulled away with a solo homer in the fifth inning and two unearned runs after two were out in the sixth inning.

Ellestad surpasses the century mark
Brooke Ellestad went 3-4 in the Tommies' first game against North Dakota. In doing so, she became the first Tommie in Division I history to reach the 100-hit milestone.

The Sophomore totaled 57 hits in her inaugural campaign and has added 52 this season with 3 games left to play. It took the shortstop just 81 games to reach 100 hits.

Of her 107 hits so far in her career 77 have been singles, 16 doubles, 2 triples, and a program-best 12 home runs. Her 16 doubles are also a DI program record.

The next closest Tommie in terms of overall career hits is Kaitlyn Raymond with 87. Ellestad has a career hit per game mark of 1.22.

Tommie Tidbits
- This year's offense has 324 hits, breaking the previous year's program record of 312 hits
- The offense has more than doubled last year's 34 doubles with 71
- The pitching staff has recorded 317.1 innings pitched this season up from 312.1 in 2022. They have improved on their WHIP (1.97 down to 1.93), shutouts (4 up from 1), batting average against (.327 down to .322) and ERA (6.03 down to 5.54)
- Avery Wukawitz's six triples have tripled the previous single season record (2) set by Brooke Ellestad

History against Kansas City
The Tommies and Roos played three games in 2023. All games took place in Kansas City and the Roos came out on top in the first two, 6-4 and 4-3 (9 Inn.). The Tommies answered back with a 3-2 win in the final game of the series.

Both Brooke Ellestad and Maddie Grad hit home runs in the game one loss.  Grad's home run was her only of the season, but the three-run shot cut the seventh inning deficit to 6-4.

The Tommies jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in game two, but could not hold on, losing in nine innings.

The longball was working again in game three. Katie Goelz launched a solo shot in the top of the second inning. The Purple would end up giving up the lead in the bottom of the third but some clutch seventh inning hitting by Nicole Pieper propelled the team to victory.
