Ringer, Douville lead Men's T&F to fourth at Summit meet
5/13/2023 6:51:00 PM | Men's Track & Field
Fargo, N.D. -- Redshirt freshman Brett Ringer contributed to two top-three finishes on Saturday to help Tommie Men's Track and Field pull out fourth place out of eight teams in the Summit League outdoor meet. The three-day, 21-event competition concluded Saturday.
In his final Tommie race, grad student Eric Douville officially broke a 19-year-old school record in the 200 dash as he placed third in 21.24, adding six team points. He also ran on the fourth-place 4x100 relay. Douville's wind-aided 200 time last month surpassed the old record, but now he has a wind legal time to own the school record.
Ringer placed third in the 400 dash in a career-best 47.89 -- the No. 5 time in program history in that event. He later anchored the Purple to third place and six more team points in the 4x400 in 3:13.89, joining Mitchell Piehl, Calvin Bream and Max Gifford.
Douville anchored the 4x100 team in 41.20, joining Gary Afram, Isaiah Hopf and Piehl in adding five team points.
Gifford added two points in the 800 with a seventh place in a 1:52.39 clocking. Carter Maack placed sixth in the 110 hurdles (15.09). Sam Duffing chipped in four points in two hurdles races, with a sixth-place finish in 56.21 in the 400 hurdles and an eighth-place finish in the 110s in 15.22
Team Chase
St. Thomas competed this weekend without key athletes Sam May and Jack Rosner -- who took season-ending injuries earlier this spring. Coach Pete Wareham's squad scored 57 points to hold off Western Illinois (53) and North Dakota (50) in the chase for fourth, ahead of Kansas City (29) and Oral Roberts (26).
As expected, North Dakota State (239), South Dakota State (205.5) and South Dakota (159.5) took the top three spots.
St. Thomas placed fifth indoors and fourth outdoors in 2022, and took fourth in both the 2023 indoor and outdoor Summit meets.
