Armstrong leads fast start for Men's Golf at Summit meet

Lincoln, Neb. -- Junior Matthew Armstrong helped Tommie Men's Golf move near the top of the leader board as he shot a two-over-par 72 good for second place out of 50 golfers after Sunday's opening round of the Summit League tournament.

The three-day, 54-hole tourney continues with 18 holes on Monday. It closes with 18 holes on Tuesday.

Just eight shots separate the top six teams in the standings led by Kansas City (301), Denver (304), St. Thomas (305) and Oral Roberts (306).

North Dakota State (308), Omaha (309) and North Dakota (312) and South Dakota (314) are also in striking distance.

St. Thomas, which placed eighth in the 2022 conference meet, came into this year's event seeded fifth based on season stroke average.

The Purple had three players shoot in the top 19 on Sunday, and all three carded two birdies to highlight their rounds.

After Armstrong, who parred 12 holes to go with his two birdies, Will Frazier is tied for 11th place after his 76, and Matthew Garside is tied for 15th place after a 77.

Matthew Raab carded a 79 and Owen Rexing shot 81 to round out the Tommie lineup.
