St. Paul, Minn. – St. Thomas Softball (8-24 overall, 0-5 Summit) fell in their final game to South Dakota State (20-14 overall, 3-0 Summit) by a score of 8-0 in seven innings at South Field, Monday afternoon.
For the second time in as many days the Tommies' offense ran into the former Summit League Pitcher of the Year, Tori Kniesche and she lived up to her reputation.
The Junior right-hander threw five innings of no-hit softball, walked just one hitter (Kameron Monson), and struck out nine to earn her 12th win of the season.
She was relieved in the sixth inning. Kaitlyn Raymond stepped up with one out in the sixth and deposited St. Thomas' first and only hit up the middle for a single.
Keira Murphy was fantastic in the circle through the first three innings. She allowed one walk in the first and then pitched back-to-back perfect innings in the second and third to keep the score deadlocked.
The fourth inning would be the Tommies' first hiccup. The defense behind Murphy committed errors in two consecutive at-bats to give the Jackrabbits runners on the corners with no outs in the inning. Murphy allowed those two runs to score but limited the damage to just the unearned tallies.
Murphy pitched a scoreless fifth inning and worked into the sixth.
South Dakota State grabbed five runs on five hits and two errors in the sixth inning to put the Tommies away. They added one more run in the seventh on a solo home run.
