Softball sweeps Western Illinois doubleheader, Bagley-Trotter secures 700th career win

St. Paul, Minn. – St. Thomas Softball (10-24 overall, 2-5 Summit League) took both games in Friday's doubleheader at South Field, shutting out the Leathernecks of Western Illinois in each contest.
St. Thomas' head coach Jennifer Bagley-Trotter secured career coaching win number 700 in their game-two victory.
Game One Recap
Ella Cook threw a five-hit shutout and was backed by a nine-hit attack as St. Thomas Softball ended a five-game losing skid with Friday's 8-0 victory over Western Illinois at South Field.
Cook struck out eight and walked one in spinning just the third shutout victory of the Division I era for the Purple.
Freshman Abbi Steirlen went 2-for-2 with three RBI to lead a nine-hit attack. Freshman Avery Wukawitz also had two hits, her eighth multi-hit game of the season. Wukawitz and Katie Goelz each stole two bases, and Goelz scored three runs.
Sophomore Jenna Kuhn capped the scoring with her first college hit: her pinch-hit solo homerun to right field ended the game in walk-off fashion in the sixth inning via the run rule.

Isabelle True threw a seven-hit complete-game shutout backed up by a four-run offensive effort as the Tommies swept the doubleheader against Summit League foe Western Illinois.
True struck out two and did not walk a single batter in tossing the fourth shutout victory of the Division I era.
Freshmen Avery Wukawitz and Kameron Monson each tallied two hits and one RBI a piece. Wukawitz's second hit was a triple, her Summit League-leading fourth of the season. Kaitlyn Raymond did not notch a hit but did bring around two important RBI by putting the ball in play with runners in scoring position.
Sydney Mickett drew her team-leading 13th walk of the season in the fourth inning and Grace Bennett earned two walks in her start at first base.
The final out of the game found its way into Mickett's glove at second base to complete the shutout victory and secure head coach Jennifer Bagley-Trotter's 700th career win. 676 of those wins were at the helm of Missouri Western State University and 24 have come as the skipper of St. Thomas.
