Men's Golf starts slowly on Friday at Hawkeye meet

Iowa City, Iowa -- St. Thomas Men's Golf has had mixed results on Friday near the halfway point of the 54-hole Hawkeye Invite at Finkbine Golf Course. The meet was halted by darkness near the mid-way point of the second round and tresumes Saturday at 8:30 a.m..
The Tommies sit in 11th place out of 13 teams with a 15-over-par score with 24-26 holes left to go on Saturday. They are nine shots behind eighth-place South Dakota State.
Host Iowa leads the event at 16-under with a six-shot cushion on second-place Northern Illinois.
Three Toms sit in the top 30 in a field of 75 players. Tied for 21st place is freshman Owen Rexing, who's playing as an individual, not part of the team score. Rexing opened with a 72 and is even par through 10 holes in round two, including five birdies. Will Frazier shot a 71 in round one and through 28 holes is at 1-over par, and is tied for 26th place with a group that includes teammate Matthew Armstrong, who shot a 73 in round one and through 29 holes is at 1-over par. Frazier and Armstrong each had nine birdies in Friday's play.

St. Thomas Men's Golf's weekend schedule has shifted at the Hawkeye Invite at Finkbine Golf Course. The 13-team competition was originally set for a Saturday and Sunday schedule, but poor weather in Sunday's forecast has prompted meet officials to move the tourney to Friday afternoon and Saturday.
The Iowa City event will include 12 other teams including conference opponents South Dakota State, Kansas City and Western Illinois, plus Power Five teams Iowa, Iowa State and Kansas.
