OMAHA, Neb. -- St. Thomas Baseball fell in both games of a series-opening doubleheader Saturday at Creighton, 15-4 and 8-5. Max Moris and Ben Vujovich tallied three hits each, including 2-of-5 from the plate with one run scored during game two.

Game One – L, 15-4 (7)

Dylan O'Connell reached base on a hit by pitch to start the second, setting up a three-run inning and a Tommie lead. O'Connell reached third on a throwing error and sacrifice bunt before Parker Mathieson drove in the go-ahead run on an RBI single. Mathieson later scored on a passed ball while Sam Kulesa extended the lead to 3-0 on an RBI single from Matthew Enck.

Gartner retired the Creighton side in order for the second consecutive inning, including his third strikeout of the game. Creighton pulled ahead for good in the bottom of the third inning with eight runs on five hits and two St. Thomas errors. CU added one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to force the 10-run rule.

Six different Tommies accounted for each of the team's six hits, including RBI knocks by Enck, Mathieson and Charlie Bartholomew. St. Thomas left six runners on base compared to seven for Creighton.

Game Two – L, 8-5
Richartz led off game two with a walk, adding his eighth game reaching base to lead off. Creighton struck first in the bottom of the first inning following a leadoff single, a double and an RBI single.

Joe Vos tied the game in the next half inning with an RBI single to drive in Tanner Marsh from second base. Walker Retz, who started on the mound, kept the Bluejays off the scoreboard over the next three innings but allowed one run in the fifth to trail, 2-1.

Following a three-run inning by the Bluejays in the bottom of the seventh, the Tommies tied the game in the top of the eighth with four runs on four hits. The first three Tommie batters recorded hits, including a leadoff single by Ben Vujovich, a double by Max Moris and an RBI single by Bartholomew.
