Sioux Falls, S.D. -- St. Thomas Men's Track and Field sophomore multi-event athletes Sam May and Jack Rosner have added additional honors to their growing resumes. After the pair combined for 20 individual points and helped the Purple take fourth out of eight teams in the conference standings last month, they each have received two of the 15 spots on the Summit League 2023 Indoor All-Academic Team.
A Neuroscience major with a 3.76 gpa, May was crowned 2023 Summit League heptathlon champion last month, one season after finishing seventh place in that event as a freshman. The Willmar, Minn., native broke the St. Thomas program record for the heptathlon with a score of 5,189, and recorded career bests in all seven events during the season. His indoor bests included high jump (6-6 3-4), pole vault (14-3 1-2), 60 hurdles (8.47), long jump (22-8 1-2) and 60 dash (6.99). Last May as a freshman in the conference outdoor meet, he placed eighth in the 10-event decathlon.
An Electrical Engineering major with a 3.95 gpa, Rosner is a three-time All-Summit League honoree with top-three individual finishes in each of his career Summit meets. The DePere, Wis., native finished just behind teammate May last month in the Summit indoor meet heptathlon --- his second conference runner-up finish in a row. Rosner set a personal-best score of 5,171. His career bests include long jump (22-1 1-4), pole vault (14-7 1-4), 60 hurdles (8.18), 110 hurdles (14.95) and 60 dash (7.05), 400 dash (49.85), 400 hurdles (54.32) and 100 dash (11.15). Rosner has helped St. Thomas take fourth place in the team race in 2022 outdoors and 2023 indoors. Last May as a freshman in the conference outdoor meet, Rosner placed third in the 10-event decathlon. His 8.18 indoor hurdles time is just .01 off the school record.
St. Thomas Track and Field starts its outdoor season later this month on March 30-31 and April 1. Some athletes will compete at the Texas Relays, and others at Texas State.
