Women's Soccer releases 2023 five game, spring schedule

St. Paul, Minn – The 2023 spring slate will include five games for St. Thomas Women's Soccer, Head Coach Sheila McGill announced Thursday.
The spring schedule includes one game in March on the campus of Concordia St. Paul, two games in April on the road at St. Cloud State and Minnesota, and two games at home on the campus of St. Thomas against Minnesota State and for an alumni game.
St. Thomas will begin its spring games on Saturday, March 18 against Concordia St. Paul and then make the bus trip over to St. Cloud State on Saturday, April 1. The Tommies will finish their road slate for the spring at Minnesota on Sunday, April 16. They will face off with the Gophers for one half and then matchup with the Cyclones of Iowa State for 45 minutes.
The Purple come home to host Minnesota State in St. Paul on Sunday, April 23 and will then host an alumni game on campus on Saturday, April 29.
The Tommies return 24 members from the 2022 squad, while bringing in one addition at the semester break. New to the Toms in 2023 is goalkeeper Olivia (Liv) Rowe.
Returning sophomore Mariah Nguyen was named the Summit League's Newcomer of the Year and was selected to the 11-player All-Newcomer Team. A transfer from Bemidji State, Nguyen appeared in all nine Summit League matches doe the Toms and led the team in foals (five), points (14), and shots on goal (14). She tied for eight in league play with eight points. The Andover, Minn. native helped the Purple improve from a 4-12-1 record in 2021 to a 6-8-3 record in 2022.
Returning sophomore Annie Bantner also received Summit League honors when she was named honorable mention all-conference for her 6-7-3 performance in net with 60 saves and a 1.27 goals-against average. Bantner and her teammates helped record five shutouts and held five other teams to one goal.
