Final point eludes Women's Tennis again in 4-3 loss

3/19/2023 4:25:00 PM | Women's Tennis

Bloomington, Minn. -- Another day, another close battle, but Tommie Women's Tennis found itself on the wrong end of the final score as Kansas City pulled out a 4-3 victory in a Sunday's Summit League match.

Three singles matches went to three sets, and the Roos won two of those three to claim the team victory.

For the second time in three days, and fifth time this season St. Thomas dropped a 4-3 score. Coach Lois Arterberry saw good signs by her Tommies despite dropping to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

"This weekend, we were competitive," Arterberry said. ".Last year we lost 6-1 (to Oral Roberts) and 7-0 to KC, so it shows we are competing. We have shown improvement over the last year, we're continuing to build.

"Marthe did a really good job getting two singles wins this weekend. We are seeing each player competing in their own way. We have to look at the positives and just have to push forward and find ways to pull out some of the remaining matches."

Marthe Degeorges improved to 6-3 on the winter/spring season at first singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. The six wins tied the Tommies' D-I era dul-meet season win total for singles set in 2022 by Jannah ElNemr.

Olivia Paradise won at No. 4 singles, and she also triumphed at No. 2 doubles with Shrichandrakala Tentu. ElNemr and Naisha Srivastav won a close battle at No. 3 doubles help the Purple claim the doubles point.
