Marsh homers for lone score in Toms loss at Oral Roberts

3/18/2023 4:44:00 PM | Baseball

Tulsa, Okla. -- Sophomore Tanner Marsh helped St. Thomas to a hot start before a game two loss at Oral Roberts, 21-2, in Tulsa, Okla.

Marsh began the game with a web gem catch, robbing ORU of a home run in the bottom of the first inning. He followed up in the top of the second inning with his first home run of the season, driving in Ben Taxdahl to take a 2-0 lead.

Following a ground out to begin the home half of the second, the next six Golden Eagle batters reached base, including a solo home run and a three-RBI triple to take a 6-2 lead. ORU tacked on one run in the third inning, five in the fourth, seven in the fifth and two in the sixth as St. Thomas held 10 Golden Eagles baserunners stranded.

The Tommies left seven runners stranded through the game, reaching base on three walks and recording three of its six hits in the seventh inning.

Marsh finished the game 1-of-3 from the plate with the two-RBI home run. Charlie Bartholomew went 2-of-3 while Brigs Richartz, Colin Lewandowski and Tommy Golbranson combined for the Purple's three hits in the seventh inning.

St. Thomas and Oral Roberts conclude the series at 1 p.m. Sunday from J.L Johnson Stadium.
