Last Time Out
The Tommies (6-14) dropped all five of their games at the Gopher Indoor Classic at U.S. Bank Stadium last weekend.
They opened the weekend on Friday with two losses to Central Michigan and Idaho State. They were outscored 4-0 by the Chippewas and 5-2 by the Bengals of IDSU.
Kaitlyn Raymond's third inning single was the only hit the Tommies could muster against Central Michigan in the shutout loss. Isabelle True did allow all four earned runs in the losing effort but sprinkled in three strong scoreless innings from the second to the fourth.
The offense got out to a two-run lead against the Bengals on a Katie Goelz RBI-double in the first and Sydney Mickett sacrifice bunt in the second. Idaho State homered once in the third and once in the seventh to walk-off the tie game.
St. Thomas played one game on Saturday against Drake and lost in five innings, 14-5. Brooke Ellestad became the second Tommie to homer twice in one game. Cassidy Carby was the first last season in a loss against Canisius.
The team completed their weekend effort with two games on Sunday. Their first game finished in an extra inning 8-5 loss to Central Michigan and an 8-0 shutout loss in five innings to the hosting Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Brooke Ellestad continued her personal efforts with two hits and three RBI against the Chippewas, her second three-RBI game in a row. Kameron Monson also did some damage with the bat when she hit her first career home run in the sixth inning to give the Tommies a 5-2 lead. Central Michigan scored six unanswered runs five of which came via three long-balls.
Minnesota scored all eight of their runs in two innings in the weekend finale. Seven of those runs came from three Gopher home runs. The Tommies tallied one base hit with two outs in the fifth inning when Kameron Monson put a seeing-eye single through the middle infield.
The Tommies allowed multiple home runs in each of their last four games last weekend. They had not allowed more than one home run in a game for their first 16 contests to start the season.
