Tulsa, Okla. -- St. Thomas Women's Basketball secured the first season sweep in the NCAA Division I era Thursday night following a 75-70 win at Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla. Sophomore Jo Langbehn powered the Tommies (9-15, 4-10 Summit) to a comeback win with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and five rebounds.
Both teams traded scores over the first five field goals before Oral Roberts went on a 9-0 run just before the six-minute mark. Jo Langbehn put in a layup to stop the run and begin a 7-0 stretch for the Tommies to pull back within two, 13-11. Amber Scalia and Autam Mendez each hit 3-pointers to set up a layup by Jade Hill for the team's first lead of the night, 16-15.
The Tommies extended their lead to three points multiple times while the Golden Eagles closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run for a 27-23 lead. Scalia's second 3-pointer of the game fell nearly four minutes into the second quarter followed by a layup from Jordyn Lamker to bring St. Thomas within one, 33-32.
St. Thomas stayed within one score at halftime, 39-37, and tied the game as Langbehn scored the opening bucket of the second half. The Golden Eagles regained control with five straight points before Langbehn sank two free throws followed by Faith Feuerbach's first 3-pointer with 4:39 in the third quarter to trail, 46-44.
The final Tommie push began near the end of the third quarter as Langbehn connected on back-to-back layups to tie the game, 50-50. Oral Roberts gave the ball away on two turnovers to set up a 3-pointer from Feuerbach to grab the first lead since the first quarter. Another Langbehn score gave the Tommies a 54-52 lead heading into the final quarter where they scored five of the first seven points.
Maggie Negaard scored seven of her 10 points in the final quarter, as St. Thomas led by at least three points for the rest of the way. After a 72-67 lead with 1:24 remaining, the Tommies were sent to the free throw line 10 times and came away with the win despite making just three.
Following Langbehn in scoring was Hill with 12 points and Feuerbach with 12 off the bench. Hill neared a double-double as she led the team with nine assists to go along with six rebounds.
The Tommies shot 46.8 percent from the field (29-62) and 34.8 percent from 3-point range (8-23) while the Golden Eagles shot 40.3 percent from the floor (25-62) and 18.2 percent from long range (2-11).
