Men's Swim & Dive take win as part of busy weekend

St. Paul, Minn. -- The St. Thomas Men's and Women's Swim and Dive teams had a busy weekend, competing in a dual against Milwaukee on Friday, Feb. 3 and participating at the First Chance Meet hosted by the University of Minnesota from Feb. 3-4.
 
In the dual against Milwaukee, the men's team secured a win with a score of 131-118 while the women's team fell with a score of 127-121. The men completed the duel season with a 3-4 record while the women fell to 1-6 overall.
 
Hanna Ryan set the ninth fastest 400 IM in program history with a time of 4:42.58, securing first place in the event. Joe Rudd also had a strong showing, setting the second fastest 100 IM in program history at 52.76 and taking first place in the event.
 
Andrew Akermann rounded out the notable performances with the fifth fastest 200 freestyle in program history at 1:41.02, taking third place in the First Chance Meet. He also swam the 10th fastest time in program history in the 200 butterfly with a third-place time of 1:55.53.
 
The women's team had seven first-place finishes against Milwaukee, including the 200 medley relay (1:48.52), Elizabeth Bonneville in the 50 freestyle (24.47), Grace Urkiel in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.51), Hanna Ryan in the 100 butterfly (58.99) and Allison An in both the 1m dive (234.38) and 3m dive (224.33).
 
On the men's side, the team's eight first-place finishes, including Rudd's in the 100 IM, included the 200 medley relay (1:36.33), Luke Ridler in the 1000 freestyle (10:08.59), Alex Foti in the 100 freestyle (47.06), Will Goldman in the 100 breaststroke (57.73), Joe Rudd in the 100 butterfly (51.94), and Dakotah Parker in both the 1m dive (282.30) and 3m dive (266.70).
 
During day one of the First Chance Meet, the women brought in a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:04.08 and finished second with a time of 4:11.09.
 
The teams will now prepare for the Summit League Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., from Feb. 22-25.
