Sam May wins Summit heptathlon, leads fourth-place men's finish

Vermillion, S.D. -- Sam May and Jack Rosner placed 1-2 in the heptathlon to help lead St. Thomas Men's Track and Field to a fourth-place finish out of eight teams at the Summit League Indoor Championships at the University of South Dakota. The two-day meet concluded Sunday.
South Dakota (199.5, South Dakota State (161.5), North Dakota State (144.5), St. Thomas (63) and Western Illinois (42.5) took the first five team spots.
May became the Tommies' first Summit League indoor champion as he scored 5,189 points and claimed 10 team points. He clocked 8.67 in the 60 hurdles and cleared 14-3 1-4 in the pole vault on Sunday.
Rosner scored eight points in the heptathlon with a score of 5,171. He also added two team points with a seventh place in the 60 hurdles in 8.33. Rosner won the hep 1,000 and the hurdles and cleared 14-7 1-4 in the pole vault.
Nate Raddatz took sixth place with 4,947 points in the hep to add three more team points. Cameron Schulz placed 12th with 4,493 points.
Morey Smith took fourth in the mile in 4:10 .97.
Brett Ringer (49.25) and Mitchell Piehl (50.24) placed fifth and eighth in the 400 dash.
Max Gifford placed fifth in the 800 in 1:53.91.
Isaiah Hopf (22.24) and Eric Douville (22.36) placed 5-7 in the 200.
In the 60 hurdles, Sam Duffing (8.32), Rosner (8.33) and Carter Maack (8.35) placed 6-7-8.
The Toms also placed fourth in the 4x400 relay in 3:20.55 with Calvin Bream, Piehl, Thomas Dundon and Ringer.
Other Sunday athletes for the Tommie men included Charles Caven, 11th in the 5,000 (14:52.57); high jumpers Christian Beamer and Grady Clem (both 6-5 1-4), in 10th and 12th place; Will Hanson, 12th in the triple jump (42-2 1-4); and Shane Aberg, 10th in the shot put (43-0 1-4).

Women's Results
The Tommies Women placed fifth in the 4x400 relay in 4:01.38 to add four team points in Sunday's final day at the Summit League Indoor Championships.
Hannah Cornelius, Taynian Walgrave, Hailey Hindt and Alicia Belany comprised the foursome.
St. Thomas closed in seventh out of nine teams over the two-day meet with 18 points. South Dakota (214) topped closest pursuer North Dakota State (166) for the team crown.
Other Sunday points came from Alexis Pratt in the 60 dash (seventh, 7.82); Molly Desotell in the mile (eighth, 5:02.73); and Olivia Keller in the triple jump (eighth, 38-3 1-4).
Other athletes in action included Ava Pankratz in the 5,000 (11th, 18:01.15); Mariana Lehrer, 13th in the triple jump (36-9 1-4); Katie Nollette and Olivia Passeri in the pole vault (10-8 3-4, tied for 12th); Brianna Fleek and Rylie Moore in the high jump (tie for 14th, 5-1).
