St. Paul, Minn. -- St. Thomas freshman Aaron Trotter on Monday was named CCHA Goaltender of the Week after another strong weekend in the net that helped the Purple split a road series and extend an impressive team points streak.
It's the fourth weekly CCHA honor of the season for Trotter in the Rookie or Goaltender of the Week categories.
The Victoria, B.C., native stopped 53 of 56 shots to help the Toms split a road series at Lake Superior State. The Toms fell 2-1 on Friday night before coming back to win 2-1 on Saturday night. St. Thomas has collected at least one point in eight consecutive CCHA weekend series. Trotter lowered his season goals-against average under 3.00 to 2.94, and he's helped the Toms go 8-3-2 this season in games when holding opponents under three goals.
Over his last 19 games, Trotter is 8-8-2 with a .919 save percentage and a 2.49 GAA. He surpassed 800 saves on the season last weekend, and recently broke the Purple's season record in the D-I era for goalie saves. His teammates backed him up with a balanced offensive effort with eight different players recording the nine points of offense. Trotter ranks among the best freshmen in the nation in minutes plays, saves and goals-against average.
St. Thomas (10-20-2) closes out its home season next Friday and Saturday nights against Bemidji State at Saint Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights. Puck drop is 7:07 p.m. and 6:07 p.m., respectively.
