Men’s Hockey fights until the end in loss at Ferris State

Jake Braccini and Lucas Wahlin both score but three goals allowed in the second period propelled the Bulldogs to first regulation win, 5-2.
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – University of St. Thomas Men's Hockey (7-7-1, 5-4-0 CCHA) fell in regulation to the Ferris State Bulldogs (5-7-1, 3-5-0) by a score of 5-2. The bulldogs never trailed, at one point leading 4-0 halfway through the second period.
RECAP
The first period started off with a Ferris State goal just 3:05 into the contest. The Tommies tilted the ice in their favor for the remainder of the frame by outshooting their opposition 16-8. The Purple just could not find the back of the net as Ferris goaltender Logan Stein made every save in the frame.
Ferris State scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second period to stretch their lead up to four. The Tommies' Jake Braccini scored the fourth goal of his season on the power play with 52 seconds left in the period.
The Bulldogs added a backbreaker four minutes into the third to retake a four goal lead. Lucas Wahlin scored his team-leading seventh of the season while on a five-minute power play with 2:02 to play in the game.
St. Thomas was 2-4 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill. The Toms also outshot the Bulldogs 36-30 but came up short in the faceoff circle with just 21 wins in 70 draws.

The Tommies conclude their final CCHA road series of 2023 tomorrow night at 5 p.m. central against the Bulldogs of Ferris State. St. Thomas looks to even the season series and the all-time series, currently 5-4 Bulldogs.
