An early goal by Sofia Caballero and clean sheet by Olivia Rowe help secure a victory for the Tommies

Tulsa, Okla.– The St. Thomas defense held strong against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles at the Case Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Okla., winning their first conference match of the season, 1-0. Sofia Caballero scored her first goal of the season, and the lone goal of the match. Mariah Nguyen assisted on Caballero's goal for her second assist on the season.

Despite getting outshot by Oral Roberts 15-7, the stellar defense of the Tommies, led by Olivia Rowe, were able to keep the Golden Eagles off the scoresheet.  Rowe had seven total saves on the match.

RECAP
The Tommies started the match aggressive offensively against the Golden Eagles.  St. Thomas' first shot of the match came in the 5th minute by Sofia Caballero. Cabellero's shot curved from outside of the box into the top right corner of the net, giving the Tommies a 1-0 lead. This was Caballero's first goal of the season, second of her career, and was assisted by Mariah Nguyen. The Tommies outshot the Golden Eagles 5-2 for the first 25 minutes of the half.

In the remaining 20 minutes of the first half, the St. Thomas defense was tested several times.  The Golden Eagles would end up taking seven more shots in the half, three that were saved by goalkeeper Olivia Rowe, one that was blocked by a defender, and one off the post.  Despite being outshot 9-5, and 4-1 with shots on goal, St. Thomas was able to hold the lead ending the first half.

In the second half, the Golden Eagle offense used their momentum to pressure the Tommies.  St. Thomas faced six shots and five corners in the second half. The Tommie defense was able to withhold Oral Robert's push, with Olivia Rowe making four saves and a goal line clear by Ellie Tempero. The Tommies earned a shutout victory over the Golden Eagles and their first conference win off the season, 1-0.
