Tommie Cross Country travels for Pink Classic Friday

St. Thomas men and women begin 8K and 6K races at 1:30 p.m. CT

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The 2023 men's and women's cross country programs head to the Pink Classic hosted by Bradley University on Friday, Oct., 13 in Peoria, Ill.
 
The Pink Classic begins at 1:30 p.m. with the Men's 8K White Race followed by the Women's 6K White Race at 2:15 p.m. The meet wraps up with the Men's 8K Red Race at 3 p.m. and the Women's 6K Red Race at 3:45 p.m. These events will take place at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill.
 
First Career Peak Performer of the Week
Sophomore Caden Nordberg earned his first career TicketSmarter Summit League Cross Country Peak Performer of the Week honor following his five-mile race at the Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, on Friday, Sept. 29. He helped the Tommies to a fourth place finish as a team while he finished 10th individually with a time of 24:38.8.

Men's 5-Mile Run
Nordberg was the top finisher for the Tommies at the Joe Piane Invitational after setting a personal record. He was one of three Tommies to place among the top 16 finishers, including grad student Colton Halla in 12th (24:41.4) and junior Charlie Caven in 16th (24:43.1).
 
St. Thomas tied Loyola Marymount with 157 points but placed fifth with an average time of 25:03.7. Sophomore Sean McNiesh placed 51st in a time of 25:23.9 while freshman Adam Lueth rounded out the Tommies' top five with a 72nd-place time of 25:51.0.
 
Women's 5K Run
Junior Molly Desotell paced all Tommies with an eighth-place finish during the 5K race at the Joe Piane Invitational. She finished with a personal record time of 17:31.0, topping her previous best by almost 30 seconds.
 
The Tommies finished with 200 points to place eighth overall in the gold division. Following Desotell were juniors Ava Pankratz, Gabriella Witschen, and Christina Bolcer, all within nine spots of each other. Pankratz placed 37th with a time of 18:14.8, Witschen took 40th in 18:18.7, and Bolcer finished 46th with a time of 18:24.6. All five of the Tommies' top finishers set 5K personal records.
 
Blugold Invite Recap
Women's 6K Run
Three Tommies competed at the Blugold Invite, led by freshman Reese Gustafson with a time of 24:28.4 to finish 88th. Sophomore Elizabeth Gregory took 124th with a time of 25:12.9 while freshman Ann Boland took 154th with a time of 25:56.4.
 
2022 Pink Classic Performance
Last year, the men's team finished 14th overall in the Men's 8K Red Race, as the returners were led by junior Charlie Caven who placed 79th overall.
 
The women's team ran in both the 6K Red and White Races, placing 25th in the Red Race and 7th in the White Race. Junior Molly Desotell led the Purple with a 47th place finish and time of 21:28.2.
